Objectives and Activities of the Charity
Our purpose
Our aim is to lov￿r Ihe impact of heart disease for people living in Greater Manchester and
the surrounding areas. We'll do Ihis by supporting and promotsng excellence in praclice lor
heart dlsease prevention, treatmenl, facilities, research and education. This will improve the
lived experience and lèvel of care available to people wlth heart disease. their relatlves.

Activlty in 2024-2025
We have had a year of ￿gn￿eaThI development arml extènded our reach significantly. We
have embedded our relatbonships wlth cardiology professionals in hospitals and in primary
care settings and developed corporate relallonships with local and regk>nal businesses. Our
rr*mb8rship with 8uslness Network Intemaliorrdl IBNI) has been particularfy successful.
We have been able to award and administer tw￿ gr8nt-maklr*3 rounds during this year.
lunding a total of 8 projects 8cros5 Greater Manchester. We have d8monstrated our
commitment to support both NHS colleagues and community partneT5 in the range of grants
allocated. In addition. we have developed a library of Condition-specif￿ pats'ent leaflets which
have been favourably received by palients, families and staff alike. We intend to continue lo
add further Subjects over the next 12 months.
In October we increased our trustee board with the appointrnenl of an experSenced ITI
technology lead. His experience has supported us to be¢ome more cyber resilient and
helped us to utillse CRM systems in a more effective vray.
In Fèbruary. we wére abl8 to host I￿r inaugural Heart Excèllence évent in central
Manchester. This was attended by our supwJrteTS, local business personnel and 8 range of
dini¢i8ns and proved lo be 8(Yn8thing we intend to C8lebrale 8nnu811y.
As we look lowards the nexl financial year, we have klentir￿d several pri(Ktlies for fund-
raislng and growth. We intènd to strengthen our trustee board vAth the appo4ntrnent of a
Iru5tee with dwilal markets'ng experts'se. diversfy our work to include direcl beneficiary
projects aTrJ ￿ntInUe to rasse ￿Jr profile ihrough a range ol key communlty actlvlties.

Structure, Governance and Management
The charity is a Charitsble Inc4)rp(nted Organlsation (CIO) wistered on 22 April 2021.
Public benefit
In shaping our objectives for the yèar and planning our activities, the truslees have
conS￿ered the Charily Commission's guidance on public benefil (Charitable Pur
-￿SeS). As

Governance
The chafTty CUrren￿Y has 5 trustees.
An annual review of the trustees. attendan￿, ￿gagernent and knowledge is carried OLrt to
ensure that a broad range of skills. 8xpertiS8 and interest is available to guide and govem
the ¢harity. The ¢harily has identified a skills gap within the marketlngl advertising field, and
we are now looking lo recrult a suitably experienced individual in order lo complement our
exlsling board. All potential Iruslees will meet with the Chief Execullve before a proposal Is
made to the ly)ard, Polential trustees wlll be Inwted to part of a general board meetin9
before being nominated armj accepted by vote.

All trustees are enc(KJraged to undergo development aCti￿tieS Ihroughout the year. whl¢h is
recorde(I within a trainin9 and development log. whlch is rev￿Wed annually. These activrties
may be completed ￿thIn their own Y￿rking environment. personal life or for ott￿r charities
in which they are involved. Training and development aclivity may include private reading,
meeb.ng with 'expert5' and a whole range of actsvibes. in additson to any formal events.
sessions and activities.
Al presenl. all trustees are engaged in all aspects of the runnlng of the charity. As the
char4ty grows and the board size increases. il is envisaged that subthcommittee groups may
be formed.
Key Management
The board has delegated significant authority to the Chief Executive who has the scope and
responsibility for the planning. difectin9 and controlling of the activities of the charity on
day-to-day basis.
Remuneration
Our trustees gfve of their time freety and no trustee received remuneration in the year. The
pay of the slaff is reviewed annually. In view of the nature of the charity. the truslees
benchmark against pay levels in other chanlies of a similar size. We do not have any
employees wilh a salary exceeding £60.000 per annum.

Financial Review
We are in a strong financial position and our balar￿ will enable us lo grow lo becorne a
sustainable organisation over the medium terrn.
We acknowledge that our expendllure currently outweighs the income generateil. although
we are pleased to report that both ino)me and expendilure falls within the expected fevels
and we are on track to achiev8 our obj8cliv8 of covering all operational costs by March 2027.
Reserves Policy
The trustees reccgnSse that there are financial rlsks aSs￿lated with the charity and have.
Iherelore, set a reserves policy to maintain the commitments of the chanty, including any
promised grant payments. for a peritxl of up to 6 months. This equates to £25.000 - £30.000.
The board ￿11 manage expendbture to ensure that reserves do not drop below thls level.
Investment Policy
NW Hearts Charity has elected Brown Shipley, a Pflvate bank to hold funds nol immediately
required, The funds afe invested al dlfferenl levels ol fixed tems. The Board has delegated
this responsibllity to our treasuref to adminlster. and a ￿TItten report for the board Is
prrmjuced quarterly.

Risk Management
The charity upholds a risk policy. as a ft)nnal ackn￿edgement that the trustee board is

and a protocol for board dI$￿5810n of ￿Idual risk. Thi5 document 1$ rewewed annually.
