St Giles’ Music Academy Annual Report Dec 2021 – Dec 2022

Due to Covid, the Academy’s usual activities were significantly restricted. Church services were following strict Diocesan rules regarding singing and choirs processing in church, which meant that there were limited opportunities for the choirs to rehearse and sing together.

Individual organ and piano lessons did take place, again following Covid restriction rules. Numbers of pupils have begun to increase.

During 2022 the Academy has been building back the number of young choristers (7-13 year olds) as during the Covid restrictions, some of the boy choristers left as their voices broke and some of the girl choristers moved on to further education out of the area.

2022 saw the development of a youth choir, comprising both male and female singers, as the Covid restrictions allowed more flexibility with regards to singing together in a church setting.
