**Gib Hill Guardians 1194129 Annual Report for the year ending 31 March 2025** ## **Aims and Purposes** Gib Hill Guardians is a community group operating in Pendle, Lancashire. Its aims are (1) to promote for the benefit of the public the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment by promoting biological diversity and heritage assets and (2) to advance the education of the public in the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment. ## **Objectives and Activities** The main focus of attention in the period from 1.4.24 to 31.3.25 was to change the name, objectives and constitution of the organisation following the designation of the Gib Hill site as a Local Nature Reserve on 21.4.23. We drafted a new constitution which was ratified at the AGM on 15.1.25 and approved by the Charity Commission. Our name was changed from Hillside Heroes to Gib Hill Guardians, and a new chair and trustees were appointed. We applied for and received grants from both Colne and Nelson town councils (see attached accounts), as Gib Hill is within the jurisdiction of both, with the border going through the LNR; these councils both appointed two delegated councillors to work with us. Activities on the ground continued to include maintenance of the Gib Hill site, including regular litter picking and footpath maintenance work with the Council. We also planned further activities including drainage improvements, mowing and access improvements which are scheduled for later financial years. ## **Achievements and Performance** Financial activities were focused on grant applications (see attached accounts). We continued to seek volunteers and to help with environmental improvement projects and to develop educational projects with local schools and other community groups. We continue to work with Pendle Borough Council on maintenance, including planting new trees to sustain hedgerows and planning drainage and access improvements for the site (see above). We planned to improve our social media presence and this has resulted in a new website and Facebook page which went live after year end. ## **Volunteers** Gib Hill Guardians would like to thank all volunteers who have helped the charity with this year’s achievements, and we could not operate without them.
