Hillside Heroes 1194129 Annual Report for the year ending 31 March 2023
Aims and Purposes
Hillside Heroes is a community group operang in Pendle, Lancashire, seeking to promote the conservaon, protecon and improvement of the physical and natural environment by promong biological diversity and heritage assets.
Objecves and Acvies
The main focus of aenon over the last 12 months has been in aempng to protect and preserve ca. 14 ha of countryside between Colne and Nelson know as Gib Hill for the benefit of the natural environment and local community. Working closely with the Lancashire Wildlife Trust, Hillside Heroes has been acvely lobbying Pendle Council to declare the site as a Local Nature Reserve. As the site had not yet been officially declared as a Local Nature Reserve, acvies on the ground this year have been limited to regular lier picking, footpath maintenance work with the Council and the removal of some dangerous barbed wire fencing.
Achievements and Performance
Post-year end, confirmaon was indeed received from Natural England of a successful applicaon for LNR status. Once the LNR is formally declared by Pendle Council, it is envisaged that Hillside Heroes will be supporng the Council in the management of the site. Financial acvies have been limited with small donaons to match the limited outgoings. Once a Nature Reserve is established, Hillside Heroes expect to be involved with the search for volunteers to help with environmental improvement projects and to undertake fund raising and grant applicaons to support such projects; and establishing educaonal projects with local schools and other community groups. Hillside Heroes is on the lookout for other opportunies in Pendle to further its Charitable Objecves.
Volunteers
Hillside Heroes would like to thank all volunteers who have helped the charity with this year’s achievements, and we could not operate without them.
