We believ• that access to fcod is a basic right. We believe Ihat our community can help fill the
immedrate need5 of rural and remote households to reduce food poverty, and the Peninsula
Community Pod aIrr￿ to match the resources donated with those ir¢ need in the community.
Aims and purpose
The Penlnsula Community Pod has grown out of tsvo organisatians, St Davids and Solva Food Pod
and Fi5hguard and Goodwick Food Support, and became a charity in April 2021. It is run and
managed entirely by unpaid volunteers. Our aim is to reduce the impact of fcod povety while
maintaining the well being and dlgnity of those supported, by providing regular food support to
Indiv￿lua1 households for as long as required.
We cover an area of approximately 300 sq miles includlng many areas without a¢¢ess to shops or
transport. and many parts Can be described as food deserts. Our area 1$ not cOVe￿d by other food
banks and charities as il is Ico remote and Ihinly populated. and we aim to meet the needs of those
excluded from other schemes by gèogr8phy. and by lack of transport.
Objectives and A¢tlvitie$
We bagan workin 2019 in St Davids and Solv8, and in 2020 in Fishguard and Goodwickto help
with food poverty and accessibitityatthe start of the p8ndemic. Ourobjecttves 8reto help:_

We cover a mainly rural and remote area of coast81 Pembrokeshire. We take ref8rraLs from
health workers. doctors, police. health visitors. other ¢haritles, and sell referrals. We also
provide emergencyfood and household goods when needed. as well as signpostingto other
8eNi¢es that ar8 needed. such as CAB. PAVS, and ourweekly deliveries provide 8 regular
contact and w811 being check on tho mostvulnerable households.
We alm to be able to provide emergencysupportwhen requested on the same day. We provide
longer term support Ihrough the weekly or fortnightly deliveyies to hO￿e$.
We aim to help people by delivering a weekly box offre$h truit. vegetables. eggs. cheese, bread,
cereal8 8nd tinned food to their home, until they no longer need support.
As durlng covid, during anyfuture em8rgency we would aim to help th088 Without intemet
ccess orc8rers, peoplewho had no recourse to benelitsfor 8 minimum of sixwaeks. Shielding.
and in quarantine, We also aim to support retired people on fixed and low income8. people ¥¥ith
disabilities 8nd people with children who are on UC. including homele8s households. 8nd
Carers.
We aim to provlde a basic°basket" of goods that should boo8tthe nutritionalv8lue of meals
acr088 the week, but is nol intended to be a full weekg Worth of food. other than for children.
Adults are encouraged to ch059 and purchase some oftheir own food. knowlng they havethe
basic box everyweek as long85 need8d. We also provlde person81 c8re and other household
products on request. Wealso referpeopleto 8 charityth8t provides 8me118nimal, ¢gtand dog
food and a130 delivers it.

enable every household to have food associated with the holid8y. including a full Christmas
dlnner and pudding. treats. and a Boxing Daytea which we aim to have locaigfoLtp8 and
businesses piovide support and sponsorship.
Aehlevement8 and Portorman¢e
We know from letters and messages received th8tthe beneflts are profound. People in receipt
of thefood p8rcel no longer fear malnutrition. are able to eat healthily, ar& able to pay other bills
such 88 he8tillg and electri¢tty. their qu81ty of Ilfe has improved. They pre no longer territi8d and
are so ple88ed that somebody cares about their welfare. The regular deliveries are a much
appreclated contg¢t for many of our isolated households, and we have been able to build trust.
This can help us understand their wider needs and help signpost them to additional services
an¢ on occasion initiate wellbeSng procedures and checks through family GPS and local care
servic85. We also 5ond outvoluntary surveyson food preferences, to reducefood waste.
In 2024 we moved to fortnightly dellveries. Thls allowed us to support families with reduced
volunteer hours.

In 2023-24 we moved to an average 30 households ￿th one day a fortnight packing 8nd
distribution. This average represents 270 weekly meals for adults and children. or 12,000
meals per year. We are piannlng detalled review8 of our whole ope18tion and the bas1¢
operating modelto ensure we e8n meet our objectiveswith ourcurrentfinanc88. Theweekiy
cost in 2023 -2024 was £377 reflecting greatly Incre8sed tood prlces and reduced food
donation5.
We WILL continue to workwith other community projects and with local group8 and charities and
businesseswho collectfood and mon8ydonations on our behalf.
Financlal Revlew
The purchases for supermarket groceries have continued to be made in the name of Trustees
and Managers. and costs reimbursed on production of eli invoices.
Our incom8 is sourced mainly from privaie donations f rom individuals 8nd local buslness88.
with additionalsupportfrom Comrnunityand Countycouncil Grants and other centralised
money administered through grant¥ from a country centr8ll$ed organisation PAVS. All grants ar8
fully audlted bythe PAVS organisation by submlssion of recelms and a lull report for each grant
including fin8nclBI analysis.
In the p881 year our money ha5 been spent on purchaslngfood lor d18tributlon to th08e in need,
with a sm811 arnount from sp•¢ific grants for essentlal IT, printing materiels and sm811 payment$
forpetroltovolunt8er drivers. who cover an average 150 mlles weekly8nd who malnlydo so at
theirown expense. The majorityoffood purchased h8s been from a localproduce wholesaler
and local superm8rkets. We have set aside 8 sum of £1530 for future rent81 of premi58S,
although we hope to be spon8or8d for Some ofthese cost8.
In the year April 2023- March 2024 we started ￿th £23,559 carried fO￿a￿d. We have spent
£19.609 on direct food purchases. £0 on IT and admln materi81s and £0 on occasionalvolunteer
expenses.
We spent £1659 on rent of a storage container. Specific gr8nL8 were obtalned for all IT
equipment expenditure.
R8$8rves Poil¢y
It is intended to hold at least 3 months reseNes for future funding at 8lltimes with up to 6
months, if possible. needed to ¢ope with the unpredictable potential for additional Calls for our
8ervices, and high dependence on relatively few large priv8te donors. All funds will be held as
unrestricted funds ie available for trustees to spend.
