Summary of the Main Achievements of the Charity for the Year – Chair's Report
Chair's Report (FoBP) 2022-23
Since the first inception of the friends the group has continued to grow in both size and influence. The Friends of Brunswick Park has grown in volunteer numbers and activities and in 2021 we decided to become a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
The purpose of the FoBP is to support the running of the park and promote its positive use and position within the community, and we do this in several ways:
-
by training volunteers to look after their local trees and their environment, especially the park, at free sessions held occasionally throughout the year.
-
The continued development of the arboretum.
-
Working with SMBC to bolster the park management plan
-
To work towards maintaining Green flag status
-
Delivering a large “community day” event in the park
-
By organising corporate volunteer days to support the work of the parks department
-
By providing a Santa singalong event for the health walk members
-
Maintaining the notice boards
-
By initiating the development of a “Parkrun”
-
By holding open trustee meetings to engage consultation.
The last year saw an increase in our work as trees and arboreta became more prominent in national and local government agendas as part of the climate crisis response. We have been well placed with a strong and skilled committee to make the most of these opportunities and we have shown that we are able to deliver services using volunteers.
