Founder’s Foreword
Welcome to our Annual Review.
This past year, from October 2023 to September 2024, has been a quieter one in terms of public-facing activities for First Light CIO. We know you're eager to see our work in action, and we share that eagerness.
Instead of immediate projects, we've used this time to focus intensely behind the scenes. Our trustees have been dedicated to solidifying our vision and mission, ensuring we build a strong and lasting foundation for everything we plan to do. We’ve been identifying the most pressing needs in our wider community and developing innovative ideas to address them effectively.
This report offers a glimpse into that essential internal work. While it doesn't detail extensive external activities, it’s a testament to our commitment to building things properly and responsibly. We are actively planning to become active in a meaningful manner soon.
We're really excited and look forward to sharing our accomplishments in greater detail in the future.

Organisational Background
First Light is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) focused on making awards to other charities and not-for-profits (NFPs).
We've been actively working on defining and strengthening our organisational capacity during this period. We'll share more specific updates on our structure and how we're growing in future reports.

Objectives and activities
Our core objectives, as set by the law of England and Wales, are to advance charitable purposes as the Trustees see fit from time to time, including:
• Relieving poverty

Relieving or preventing sickness and improving health anywhere in the world by:

(1) Making grants to charities and non-governmental organisations;

(2) Providing or assisting in the provision of free medical treatment; and

(3) Providing or assisting in the provision of items, facilities and services that will relieve poverty, relieve or prevent sickness and improve health.
During this reporting period, while our direct activities to the public have been limited, our focus has been entirely on strategic planning and laying the groundwork. This preparation is crucial to ensure we can effectively deliver on these objectives in the future. The Trustees confirm that we've carefully considered the Charity Commission’s public benefit guidance throughout our planning.

We haven't held any public events in this reporting period (October 2023 - September 2024). Our efforts have been entirely directed towards planning and figuring out the best ways to design and deliver truly productive and impactful events for the future.

Reserves Policy
As there has been no income or expenditure during this reporting period, our reserves policy has not yet been put into practice.
We will fully implement this policy once the charity begins to receive income and incur costs through its operational activities.
