## **Chrysalis Annual report 20/2/22 to the 20/2/23 Completed by Adrian Cunningham Charity Founder**

This is the second year of the charity and we have been focusing on recruiting trustees and developing our policies and procedures.

Between 20/22022 to 20/2/2023 we did 11 awareness day throughout North Yorkshire setting up a information centre where men could come and have a chat and get information about the help they needed if they were struggling with their mental Health. We would also signpost people to local groups in their area.

We joined up with Hub of Hope which provides support groups around England. This allowed us to offer individual we met at our awareness days an opportunity to attend support groups.

Our website also provided enquiries from men struggling with their mental Health. We employed some administrative help to help us keep our website up to date and we ran regular articles on Facebook raising awareness’s arounds men’s mental health and suicide.

We ran our men's talking group every Wednesday night.

The group provides a safe none judgmental place for men to come and have a chat with us.

We have had great success with the group and had a reasonable level of attendance.

In the summer we used some of the charity funds to take so of our service users to do activities such as axe throwing and bowling.

Thank you to the Trustees, volunteers and all that have supported the charity over the past 12 months.

## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES**

## **Objectives and aims**

The object of the charity is the advancement of health and saving of lives, in the prevention of men’s suicide. Our mission is the focus on making the maximum positive effort for our community. Our members and volunteers provide the momentum that helps us affect change. Using data driven models, we provide solutions that make a long-lasting difference.

In planning our activities for the year we kept in mind the Charity Commission’s guidelines on public benefit at our Trustee meetings. We run support groups for adult men who are suffering with loneliness, worthlessness and suicidal thoughts. The charity provides practical support, grants and signposting for men and their friends and family. We work with companies to offer a support to employees who may be struggling with their mental Health.

## **ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE**

## **Fundraising activities**

During the year the organisation raised funds in various ways, including sponsored walking and cycling challenges, and voluntary donations at events where the charity has attended to offer advice and support, and show their presence in the community.

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**

## **Reserves policy**

The reserves policy reflects the wish to maintain financial stability so that we can continue to meet the costs of repairs and maintenance. The policy is under regular review.

## **Trustees’ responsibilities in relation to the financial statements**

The charity trustees are responsible for preparing a trustees’ annual report and financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice). The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the charity trustees to prepare financial statements for each year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity, and of the incoming resources and application of resources, of the charity for that period.

In preparing the financial statements, the trustees are required to:

- select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;

- observe the methods and principles in the applicable Charities SORP;

- make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;

• state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures that must be disclosed and explained in the financial statements;

- prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in business.

The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the applicable Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations, and the provisions of the Trust deed.

They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. The trustees are responsible for the maintenance and integrity of the charity and financial information disclosed publicly for whichever purpose, in accordance with legislation in the United Kingdom governing the preparation and dissemination of financial statements.

**INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF CHRYSALIS**

I report on the accounts for the year ended 20 February 2023 set out on pages four to six.

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

## **Basis of the independent examiner’s report**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statements below.

## **Independent examiner’s statement**

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under s145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under s145(5)(b) of the Act. I have completed my examination.

I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

- accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act; or

- the accounts do not accord with the accounting records.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
