## **OBJECTIVES & ACTIVITIES**
The charity’s main objectives are:
- To educate the public in the dramatic and operatic arts
- To further the development of public appreciation and taste in the said arts
## **ACHIEVEMENT & PERFORMANCE**
The Company of Players (Hertford) known as CoPs as a theatre company has been in existence for 60 years. Charitable status was granted in April 2021. This will enable CoPS to raise funding to develop the theatre. The charity is seeking planning permission for this.
The key achievements during the year to 31 July 2023 were productions of:
• Rabbit Hole September 2022 • Husbands & Sons November 2022 • Bronte December 2022 • Shakespeare In Hollywood March 2023 winner of the GoDA adjudicators award
Plans for the theatre development were passed by the Hertford County Council.
## **FINANCE**
CoPS made a deficit of £2,961 (2022 – deficit of £6,465). Income was £30,435 compared with £32,238 in 2022. Expenses included £4,014 for repairs to the roof.
The charity has unrestricted cash funds of £40,597 (2022 - £39,277) and restricted cash funds of £14,309 (2022 - £18,542) giving total cash resources of £54,903 (2022 - £57,819). The charity also owns the theatre building and has fixed assets of £559,000 (2022 - £559,000) giving total reserves of £618,886 (2022 -£621,847).
## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT**
## **Governing document**
The charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and its constitution is one with voting members other than its charity trustees.
## **Risk management**
The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.
## **Public Benefit Statement**
The charity trustees have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit as published by the Charity Commission in exercising their powers or duties.

## **Independent Examiners Report to the Trustees of The Company of Players (Hertford) CIO on the Financial Statements for the year ended 31 July 2023**
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the CIO for the year ended 31 July 2023.
## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
As the charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts; you consider that the audit requirement of section144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) does not apply.
## It is our responsibility to:
- examine the accounts under Section 145 of the 2011 Act
- to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions of the Charity Commission (under Section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act); and
- to state whether particular matters have come to our attention.
## **Basis of independent examiner's report**
Our examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently we do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
In connection with our examination, no matter has come to our attention:
- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and
- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met; or
- (2) to which, in our opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
