## **Trustees' Annual Report for Buganda UK Charity Number:** 1194037

**Period:** 1 February 2023 to 31 January 2024

## **Introduction**

The trustees are pleased to present their annual report and financial statements for the year ended 31 January 2024. These financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the trust deed, and the Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).

## **Objectives and Activities**

Buganda UK is dedicated to promoting and protecting public health, particularly for individuals of Ugandan and other African and Caribbean descent. Additionally, the charity aims to advance the history, culture, and heritage of the Ganda culture for the benefit of the public.

## **Achievements and Performance**

Throughout the year, Buganda UK successfully organized a variety of events and activities, including cultural seminars, health awareness workshops, and community support programs. These initiatives were well-received and significantly contributed to our objectives.

In November 2023, a dinner was held in Ilford, East London, bringing together individuals from various communities to discuss self-development topics such as health, business, and education. Notable attendees included the area MP (Newham), local councillors, and the Kabaka’s representative in the UK.

The charity conducted both in-person and online training seminars addressing health issues, including COVID-19, mental health, and loneliness. Youth seminars provided strategies for gaining employment, such as CV writing and starting businesses, and encouraged the use of talents in music, dance, and sports.

Loneliness and illness are significant issues affecting our community, particularly senior citizens. Due to historical and cultural factors, our senior citizens often struggle to integrate into conventional social settings like bingo halls and pubs. Buganda UK collaborates with other groups, including faith communities, to support these individuals.

Culture plays a crucial role in communities, especially among the youth. Young people who embrace and respect their cultural values tend to be more successful in education, responsible, and good citizens. Buganda UK dedicates time to educating the youth on the importance of cultural values and their impact on overall well-being.
