The Museums settor across the UK fates very ChaI￿nE1n8 timES and Sheffield Museums is not immune from those
challenges. The Trust is grateful for the support of its two major funders. Arts Council England and Sheffield City
Council. I particularly want to thank SCC. wrth whom we have an exceptionally strong rtlationship. Despite their
own financial th3llenge5. th* have approved a substantial uplift in our annual semce charge.
Investment continues across our srtes. In particular, the work at Abbeydale is proeressing well towards a
reimagined and sustainable visitor attraction. Workin8 Wlth our colleagues at SCC. a feasibility Study will
commence shortly to look into the vision and options lor ihe Graves Gallery and Central Library building.

able to work wth Sheffield Assay Office to create new displays in the Sykes Gallery that cdebrated Ihe
25￿ anniversary arKI $lw¢as¢d a new ge￿ration ol s￿￿￿￿-base(l glvefsmilhs.
A grant from the DCMSMoifson Museums and GaI￿rieS Imprtsvernent Fund enabled u5 to purchase a suite
of disrlay cases for Kelham Island Museum which now host new di5pkqys that bring a wider 9lobal context to
Sheff*l¢J-made products vrilh images, otry.ects and Mem￿t5 donated through a series of Community drop-in
events in 2023.

Vibrant museums
The total wsitor nurnber for all sttes durrr*8 the year was 757,596. This was a 3% iftcrease on last yearf5 734,665
and in line with expettatiorbs. ￿l￿Ough weaie pleased to see this increase. r￿ule5 have not returned to pre Covid
levels.. we ha¥2 noticed changes in visitor bEhaviour particularly at Millennium Gallery and Weston Park Museurn
that we continue to learn from and adapi to in ordEr to irnprove footlall further.
In 2023-24, PricewaterhouseCcK*per5 launched thE new ACE-funded audience research platforrn, Illuminate. A
delayed release and several £ompatibility i55ue5 resulted in survtys not bptnB ieady until late in the year. Thi5
means we do ntrt have a robust data set for 2023-24. However. all suThtys are now operat￿n31 èt all 6 sites. and
we are on trèck with our audience data targets for 2024-25.
We were ableto continue to gather data throvEh lrnpart & Insight within the exhibition spaces. We rnea5ured the
quality and impact of prograrnffje. evaluating four exhibitions The four 2xhibitions stored hi8he5t on the
Impact & In51ght dimensions of ttsrKept. ri8our. enthusiasm and captr¥ation.
The Pioneers exhibition attracted a higher percentage of older visitor5 than the usual Millennium Gallery audience
and the majority of attendees said it was the reason lor their ￿&It. The Ht7ir.' Untold Storie5 exhibition at Weston
Park Museum atiracted more w51tors from outside Sheffield than the typKal vi51tor wth 20% of respondent5
stating thry rarety visit mUSeLtms and 16% statinE thty dofi't visit mu5eurns at all. Donkey Nonsen5e.' Print5 bv
Jomes Green attrarted more people from Sheffield than the tywcal Millenniurn Gallery audiente and 75% of
respondent5 said that the exhibition expanded their uNJerstandine of treativity in Sheffield. Vtsit015 tD the Dutch
Flowers exhibition had a similar demoyaphic to the usual Millennium Gallery audience yÈt 33% of respondents
had nevervisited before.
Volunteering
10 2023-24. volunteering artbvity rnainrained its position well a¢ainst a background of the cost-of-INirsg crisis
sevefety impacting volunteer engaEementacross the third 5ertor. 247 volunteers contributed 6.746 hours of their
time to support our chèritable work. as tèptured by our Volunteenn8 Man?Ber and volunteering database. This is
5% increase on time donated and èn 8% increase on number of people engaged on last year. OpportunitlES for

The Trustees believe it is appropriate to prepare these financial statements on a goiTr8 concern basis.
