Lions Club International
The Selsey and District Lions Club is a local club fomied as part of Lions Club
Intemational voluntary service organisation, that helps, supports and guides local
clubs to serve their local communities. Clubs are charte￿d as separate entities with
their own constitution, but have links to other clubs in th8irzone. to their District in
the South Eastof England, the Multiple Districtin the UK and to Lions Club
Intemational. Linkages wilh olher Lions Clubs and the Lions Clubs stwclures
provides a vehide forthe exchange of ideas and Ihrough co￿peratiOn the dubs
WO￿ togetherto help on national and intemational projects.
Selsey & Distsict Lions Club CIO
Selsey & District Lions Club CIO is a volunlary organisation which exists to help the
local community and support as it sees fiL Lions Club's nab'onal and intemational
projects. The administration of the dub is wholly financed by its members. All time
given to organise activities to raise funds and provide community service is given
freely by the members and friends of the club, for no payment or reward. This is the
dub's 48th year as part of the Lions Clubs intemational and of serving Lions
intemational initiatives and the local community.
The objects of each Lions Club are lo:
create and foster a spirit of u nderstanding among the peoples of the wodd.
promote the prin aples of good govemment and good citizenship;
tske an active interest in the Givic. cultural. sooal and [￿ra1 welfare of the
community.
unite the dubs in th8 bonds of friendship. good fellowship and muttjal
understanding.,
provide a forum forthe open discussion of matters of public interest" provided.
however. that partisan polib'cs and seclarian religion shall not be debated by
club member5"
encourage servtce-minded people to serve Iheir communitywithout pe￿onal
financial reward, and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical
standards in commence, industy. professions, public worf(s and privat8
endeavours.
Membership
The Lions dub's membership atthe beginning of the yearwas 16 wilh 13 men and 3
women. At the end of the yearthe membership was 20 with 15 men and 5 women.
In undertaking its work, the Charity relies on members of the Selsey and District
Lions Club. Theirtime is given freelyand withoutcharge and withoulthis support the
charity would not be able to function.
Selsey & District Lions Club is managed by its members and meets monthly al a
'Business Meeting-. The club elects and appoints annually a numberof officers and

Twstees who meet 2 monthly to discuss strategic or important issues. Detailed
affairs relating to fund-raising and deasions on Community Service proposals and
donations are considered at regular monlhty committee m88tings.
Club members pay an annual subsoiption of £60. paid half yearly. These
subscriptions and fund-raising social events for members pay for the member5, dues
which are paid to support Lions Dislrirt Lions Multiple District and Lions Club
Intemational administrats'on and forthe administration of trie club. These monies
relating to the administration of Ihe dub are held entirely separately from the
charitable and charity fundwraising rrK)nies in a separate"Administration° bank
account.
Trustees
The dub is managed by 7 Trustees who are. Club PresidenL Vice Presidenc Past
President Secretsry, Treasurer. Activib'es Chairperson and Charities & Welfare
Chairperson. As Colin Rickman was the Vice President, Secretsry and Charities &
Welfare Chairperson, thisyear the dub only had 5 Trustees. The Twstees and Lions
Club Officers are el8Cted on an annual basis; a person may be reryelected to seNe.
Trustees are encouraged lo attend the Lions District 105SE Spring Forum where
guidance is given on the role of Ihe Trustees.
Finance and Activities
Selsey& District Lions Club relies mainly on fundraising for its income, a11hough we
do get donations from the public and receive gift aid. Club mernbers and friends of
the dub undeitske a variety of fund-raising acts'vities throughoutthe year.
The main income ofthe club during the yearwas derived from:
Chrlstmas Float Collectlon
The dub again took its Christrnas Float around the streets of Selsey and the District
in December. Donations are made by members of the public as the floattravel's
around the streets. The club also Gollect via ststic collections, which are held at local
supeTmaTkets and in the high streeL These collections are arranged under Iic8nce
from Ch ichester District Council. All proceeds went to general club funds
Golf Day
The annual Golf Daywas run in July 2023,funds are raised fromthe running of a
charity auction and raffle. The club also secured 9 sponsorship agreements with
local companies to sponsor a hole on the golf ¢C￿rse. this money was offset against
the costs of running the evenL such as green fees, prizes for golfers. All proceeds
from the Golf Day are designated lo one or two charities, this year's charib'8s were
the St Bamabas Hospice and The Sussex Snowdrop Trust
Easter Egg Draw
During the weeks leading up to Easter. the club again rdn its Easter Egg Draw.
Large boards of 100 nUrnbe￿ in squares where placed in 6 pubs. a shop and a

hairdressers. The publicpurchased a square fora pound and the Wlnning number at
each location won a large Easter egg. All prO￿ed$ went to general dub funds
BBQ'S
The club ran three BBQ'S during Ihe year. the largest BBQ was held during Ihe
Christmas Lights Switch <￿. The Chrislmas Lights Switch on is an event run by the
SelseyTown Council, whoallow Charitiesto wn fundraksing stslls orfood outlets free
of charge during the day. The club had a very successful day and all pmceeds from
this BBQ went to general club funds.
The otheriwo BBQ'S were run by the Selsey Club, Ihe location where the dub holds
it business meetings. The Selsey Club ran two tharity day's and allowed us to sell
burgers from our BBQ to Ihe public. The dub decided to donate the profits from
these BBQ'S to Ihe Full up for Kids charity. which was the Selsey Clubs charity
for Ihe year.
Glft Akl & Glft Aid Small Donations (GADS)
As in previous years the club did apply and receive £1328.45 underthe GADS
scheme from the 2022r23 Christrnas Floal collection. The dub also received Gift Aid
of £162.96 from the dub rrembers annual subscription fees.
The profits from the events listed above are donated lo thosen causes on the
recommendation by the Chartties & Welfare Committee. The Charities & Welfare
Committee discuss financial requests received at their meeting. investigate any
enquires, before presenting their recommendation atthe dubs fnonthly business
meeting. A vote is then tsken during the meet'ng, to decide if financial support
should be given.
Scooters
The dub have a fleet of electric scooters which it loans outto the residents of Selsey
and trte Distrrictwho have mobility problems. To re￿1ve a scootera person must put
a r8quest into the dub on why they require a scooter. The person is then visited by a
dub memberwho checks the validity of the request, a decision is then made if the
scooler can be loaned. The club do ask for an annual donation of £100.00 from each
person who loans a scooter. this howeverdoes depend on the persons financial
circumstances. At times scooters have been loaned out at a lower amount orfree of
charge. The clu b have also been donated scooters from mèmber of the public, Ihese
scooters are either loaned out or if Ihey are not suitable to be loaned outthey are
sold. All donations received and sales are paid intothe Charity and Welfare account.
Community Service Activities
As well as giving financial support to needy causes, the dub also take part in
Community Service acts'vities. Below are a list of activitses the club took part in,
during 2023r24.

Coach Trlp for Elderly Residents- the cjub financed Ihe hire of a coach and paid
the entrance fee for 50 81deTly residents to visit Birdworfd in the Summer.
Remembrance Sunday- the dub assisted in the road Ma￿halling in Novemberfor
the Selseys Remembrance Parade.
Message In a Botde - the club delivered to local doctor5 surgeties and gave to
members of the public, message in a bottle containers.
Spectscle Recycllng- we have collection containers in iwo opts'cians in Selsey an
n Selsey Health Centre for unwanted spectsdes and cases. These spectsdes are
then given to Chichester Lions Club who ship to needy people around the world.
Business Premium Account
The club also has a Base Rate Reward Bank Accounc the obiedive of this account
is to put money not immediately needed into a bank account where the highest
possible interest can be incurred without risk.
Administration Account
As with all other Lions Clubs we have an administration accounc which is separate
from the Actimties and Charities accounts. The administration account is used purely
forthe njnning of Ihe dub. The biggest expense from this account are the MD &
District Dues and the Internat'onal Dues. Funds forthe account are colleded from
rnernbe￿ sUbS￿lptiOns. dub members raffles and social events and Gift Aid from
member5 subscriptions. No funds from charity even15 are paid into the
Administration AccounL
Reserves Policy
In January 2019 the dub received a £20,000 donation from a will. The club decided
thatthis donation would be put into the Business Premium Account and used to
purchase a new mini-bus, when the curTent mini-bus broke down or required
expensive repair5. It was felt at the time that the mini-bus probably only had 3 or 4
years use left. howeverto oursurprise the mini-bus is still running without any major
expense. tt is likely however. that in the nexifew years the Min1￿uS will require
expensive ￿paIrS or break down. Therefore with the funds in the Business Premium
Account a new mini-bus can be purchased.
At trie last Trustees meeting itwas dectded thatthe dub will set a reserve policy for
money in the Charity Account. This new amountwill set within the nextfew months.
Rlsk Policy
Not having propety interests oremployees, the Charitable Trust exposure to risk is
relatively low. The Trustees are covered to the level of £2 million by the Trustees
indemnity element of the Lions Multiple District Insurance policy. Due to diligence in
checking the insurance detsils of any organisation employed at events is essential.
The only received risk is insolvency. This is addressed by the tnjstees ensuring that
grantsldonations do not exceed the available funds held by the Aclivities Accoun(
Charity & Welfare Account and Business Premium AccounL
