The year 2023-2024 has been another testament to the power of collective compassion and the unwavering generosity of our incredible donors. Your support has enabled us to carry out transformative projects in multiple countries, providing critical aid and hope to those facing hardship.

## **GOVERNANCE AND STRATEGIC OVERSIGHT**
The Board of Trustees is responsible for setting the charity’s strategic aims, priorities, and long-term direction, ensuring alignment with our mission to alleviate poverty and suffering. The Board oversees strategic planning and governance, regularly evaluating the charity’s performance and progress against its objectives.
## **SENIOR MANAGEMENT TEAM OVERSIGHT**
The Board of Trustees is accountable for the appraisal of the Senior Management Team (SMT). This includes making appointments to the SMT, as well as decisions regarding dismissals, where necessary, to ensure effective leadership and management of the charity’s operations.
## **REGULATORY COMPLIANCE & STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT**
The Board of Trustees ensures that the charity complies with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including those set by the Charity Commission. The Board also engages with key stakeholders, fostering relationships that support the charity’s mission and enhance its impact.
## **RECRUITING AND APPOINTING TRUSTEES**
All our trustees are volunteer, chosen because they all have the diverse range of skills, knowledge and experience that we need to respond to the challenges of today. Stakeholders and partners may nominate trustees and sometimes we will make a personal approach to potential candidates.

As-Siraj Trust (previously known as As-Siraj) refers to the charity incorporated organisation with a governing document known as CIO - foundation originally incorporated on 07 April 2021 as amended on 26 Mar 2022 as amended on 29 Mar 2022.

## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE** & MANAGEMENT
The trustees keep adequate accounting records, and they show and explain our transactions. The records also disclose our financial position with reasonable accuracy at any time and enable trustees to ensure that the financial statements comply with Charity Commission Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) 2015.
## **GRANT MAKING POLICIES**
We provide grants to projects if the request meets our charitable objectives and criteria. Project grant making is managed according to a designated process, which is documented in our Operational Risk-Management Framework. We aim to treat all grant applications professionally, equally and fairly. We make the final decision as to eligibility to receive a grant, at our discretion.
## **PUBLIC BENEFIT**
Our strategic planning is centred on ensuring that all our activities deliver the maximum public benefit, in line with the charitable purposes defined by the Charities Act 2011. We are committed to making a meaningful and measurable difference to the communities we serve.
To achieve this, we:
- Identify and address the most pressing needs of our beneficiaries.
- Design and deliver programmes that create tangible, positive outcomes. Regularly evaluate our impact to ensure we are meeting our objectives and fulfilling our mission.

## **OBJECTIVES & STRATEGIC** ACTIVITIES FOR THE BENEFIT
The objects of the charity are set below:
**A.** The prevention and relief of financial hardship & sickness among those suffering from the consequences of natural disasters, wars, economic & social deprivation, or other unfortunate accidents in the world, especially in developing countries through the provision of monetary aid, medicines, food, clothing as well as shelter in coordination.
**B.** To advance in life and help young people in the UK and abroad who have need by reason of their youth or social and economic circumstances, through the provision of recreational and educational activities, provided in the interest of social welfare, designed to improve their conditions of life as well as by providing support and activities which develop their skills, capacities, and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature, responsible, and independent individuals.

## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND** PERFORMANCE
## **2021-22: BUILDING FOUNDATIONS FOR CHANGE**
In 2021-22, As-Siraj Trust carried out a range of impactful activities to support individuals and communities in the UK and abroad, particularly in Jordan and Pakistan. Key initiatives included:
- Providing **Eidi for Orphans** to bring joy to vulnerable children.
- Distributing **Iftaar Meals** during Ramadan to those in need.
- Organising a **Trip to Rhyl Beach** for community engagement and recreation. Delivering the **Winter Project 2021** to provide essential aid during the colder months. Hosting a **Community Iftaar** to foster unity and support.
- Implementing the **Ramadan Project 2021** to distribute food and essentials.
- Installing **Water Pumps** to provide clean water to underserved communities.
Through these efforts, we provided food parcels, clean water, clothing, and recreational opportunities to over 1,500 individuals across the UK and Pakistan. These achievements were made possible by the generosity of our donors, whose support enabled us to bring hope and relief to those in need.

## **2022-23: EXPANDING OUR REACH**
In 2022-23, As-Siraj Trust continued to expand its impact, supporting even more individuals in the UK, Jordan, and Pakistan. Our key activities included:
Distributing food parcels, clean water, and clothing to those in need. Organising fun days to bring joy and relief to vulnerable communities.
Thanks to the unwavering support of our donors, we were able to assist over **2,500 individuals** , significantly increasing our reach compared to the previous year. These efforts reinforced our commitment to alleviating poverty and suffering, both at home and abroad.
## **2023-24: STRENGTHENING OUR IMPACT**
The year 2023-24 marked a significant milestone for As-Siraj Trust as we undertook a wide range of impactful projects, furthering our mission to support those in need. Some of our key initiatives included:
- Constructing a Masjid in Pakistan to serve as a spiritual and community hub. Installing water pumps in Punjab and Mirpur, Pakistan, to provide clean water. Organising fundraising events to support various causes.
- Distributing winter aid in Jordan to help families survive the harsh winter months. Providing Ramadan food packs in Jordan and Pakistan to ensure families could break their fast with dignity.
- Arranging Umrah for orphans, offering them a once-in-a-lifetime spiritual experience.
- Launching a youth club in the UK to engage and support young people. Hosting weekend retreats in the UK for spiritual and personal development.
Through these efforts, we provided food parcels, clean water, clothing, and essential support to over **3,500 families** across the UK, Jordan, Pakistan, and beyond. Each year, we continue to grow and expand our impact, bringing hope, relief, and positive change to communities worldwide.

The charity received sum of **£308,717** in donations from various sources. The charity does not have any reserve policy. No funds are in deficit at the balance sheet. The funds are in surplus by **£27,594** at the balance sheet.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the financial statements of As Siraj Trust for the from period 07th April 2023 to 06th April 2024 which comprise the Statement of Financial Activities, the Balance Sheet, and the related notes.

## **RESPECTIVE RESPONSIBILITIES OF TRUSTEES AND EXAMINER**
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The trustees have determined that an audit is not required for this period (under Section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act)) and that an independent examination is sufficient.
Having satisfied myself that the charity is not subject to audit and is eligible for independent examination, it is my responsibility to:
- Examine the accounts.
- Follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under Section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act); and
- To state weather particular matters have come to my attention.
## **BASIS OF THE INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT**
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

## **BASIS OF PREPARATION**
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention, in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (effective January 2015) and the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP): Accounting and Reporting by Charities (applicable for the financial year). The accounts comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Companies Act 2006, and other relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
## **RECOGNITION OF INCOME**
Incoming resources are recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities (SoFA) when the charity has a legal entitlement to the funds, the amount can be measured with reasonable accuracy, and there is reasonable certainty of receipt. Income includes donations, grants, legacies, and other voluntary contributions, as well as income from charitable activities and investments.

## **RESOURCES EXPENDED**
Expenditure is recognised on an accruals basis and is classified under headings that aggregate costs related to the same category. Direct costs are allocated to specific activities, while indirect costs are apportioned on a systematic and consistent basis that reflects the use of resources. All costs are attributable to the charitable activities of the organisation.
## **ALLOCATION AND APPORTIONMENT OF COSTS**
All costs incurred relate to the charitable activities of the organisation. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to a specific activity, they are allocated or apportioned based on a rational and consistent methodology that reflects the actual use of resources.
## **FUND ACCOUNTING**
The charity maintains the following types of funds:
## **UNRESTRICTED FUNDS**
These funds may be used at the discretion of the trustees to support any of the charity’s objectives.
## **RESTRICTED FUNDS**
These funds are subject to specific conditions imposed by donors or funders and can only be used for the purposes specified. Restrictions may relate to particular projects, activities, or timeframes.
## **DESIGNATED FUNDS**
These are unrestricted funds that the trustees have set aside for specific future purposes or projects, reflecting their commitment to long-term planning and sustainability.
## **GOVERNANCE COSTS**
Governance costs, which include expenses related to the strategic management of the charity, compliance with constitutional and statutory requirements, and the oversight of operations, are separately disclosed in the financial statements.
## **GOING CONCERN**
The trustees have assessed the charity’s ability to continue as a going concern and confirm that there are no material uncertainties about the charity’s ability to meet its financial obligations for at least 12 months from the date of approval of the financial statements.
## **CRITICAL ACCOUNTING JUDGMENTS AND ESTIMATES**
The preparation of the financial statements requires the trustees to make judgments, estimates, and assumptions that affect the application of policies and reported amounts. These judgments are based on historical experience, current circumstances, and other factors deemed reasonable under the circumstances.
