Trustees are familiar with policies and procedures related to charitable work, and in particular any that may be relevant to Bundles of Blessings (BOB).

All trustees have received a copy of the constitution, and the guide for trustees from the Charity Commission.

Relationships with other parties has built slowly during this time; with more recent connections with health care professionals, support workers, and churches increasing.

During this period, we gifted bags to Ukranian refugees through an agency during the early crisis. Should this become a regular occurrence, the trustees will agree to amend our constitutional document to reflect this wider reach.

To advance the Christian religion for the benefit of the public in Shepway, Dover and the surrounding areas, in accordance with the statements of belief appearing in the schedule. We are pleased to report that we feel we have, in our first year, achieved our objectives of advancing the Christian religion by being able to donate bags to a wide range of people in our community. This has had a far reaching public benefit: Bags were given to a very wide range of people (in age, and social standing) and the contents of the bag consider the suitability and safety of the recipients. E.g. Adult women’s bags look diferent to children’s bags. During this period all trustees have had an opportunity to suggest and co-ordinate the delivery of bags to recipients. For larger projects, trustees, and a few friends, have helped to pack the backs and purchase the contents of the bags. The goods included in the bags have generally been included after mutual agreement. Two of the trustees have done more purchasing of goods and packaging, as other trustees are working full time, but all trustees have knowledge of the outreach and progress.

Income continues to come from charitable giving, and we have not tried to raise any further funding currently. Perhaps this will be explored much later, but this small and manageable charity seems to work well for now. It has a personal touch, with each bag sewn and chosen with care and attention. This still feels important to us as a charity.

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

We are delighted to have received status as a charity, and to have finished our first year! The trustees are supportive, and have had unanimous agreement on the objectives, and outcomes. This creates a harmonious, hard-working little charity, for which we are grateful.

Also, we have exceeded our expected goals, and have delivered almost 200 bags.

The response from the public who benefit is always overwhelming. The people feel they have benefitted so much from these gifts. One recipient felt it was the only ‘joy’ she’d had in a very dark period of several months; others report feeling ‘loved’, ‘seen’, ‘cared for’. They have also said the contents of the bags have been useful, and stimulating, during difficult emotional periods.

There is an increase in connection with local care-givers of all types of organisations, all of whom feel the community (who experiences much deprivation and challenge) has truly benefitted from the work of Bundles of Blessings.

Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves

Details of any funds materially in deficit

We are a very small charity. We also have very low costs; and these are only related directly to the creation of each bag. We do not have a requirement to produce ‘x’ number of bags, as they are produced when the trustees are notified of a need. Therefore we do not yet need a policy on cash reserves. Nevertheless, there is a healthy cash reserve in the bank, should we want to make several hundred of bags very quickly.

We do not formally fundraise, but continue to receive regular donations from friends of the charity. However, we may like to explore increasing this gifting by registering for Gift Aid during the next year.

It would be by agreement of all trustees that we may at some point in the future, try to enlarge the reach of this charity. However, for now, we have agreed that it is manageable as it stands (given the work it takes to make and produce each bag), and that our reach of between 15/16 bags per month is making a real diference to those in our community who are vulnerable for many reasons.
