There must be at least three trustees and no more than 12. In appointing Trustees due consideration is given to ensuring that the Trustees have the personal qualities and, between them, the skillset necessary to manage the charity effectively and in accordance with charity law. The process is - set out the criteria; - advertise internally (full membership) and externally if appropriate; - shortlist/consideration by the full board of Trustees; - nomination, induction, training. ## **c) Activities** ## **Statutory Declaration** The Trustees confirm that they have paid due regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit in deciding what activities the charity should undertake. _Page_ 3 _of_ 6 _Small Charity Support: Trustees’ Annual Report & Financial Statements_ ## **d) Achievements & Performance** ## **Outputs and Outcomes** ## _Key Outputs_ The third edition of the Paisajes Piano Festival Sierra de Gata took place over 5 days from the 12[th] to 16[th] of August 2025. Eleven pianists and two dancers gave nine evening concerts that were planned and widely advertised locally and internationally. All concerts were free of charge to the public at large. A Festival brochure was available in which the Artistic Director introduced the Festival and gave a preview of the artists and their concert programmes in the context of the Festival’s overall theme. The brochure also included a contribution from each artist about their programmes, their artistic and creative development, their experiences, inspiration and approach to their own performance. Flyers giving details of each evening’s concerts were available free of charge to everyone attending. **C** oncerts included Baroque, Classical, Modern, Contemporary classical and Jazz piano pieces, either solo piano or piano or keyboard accompanied by other instruments. **The** evening of the 13[th] August featured a performance by Lilla Verriez whose concert was the first in the Festival’s _Young Virtuoso Series._ The evening also featured new cinema music – Ashley Hribar performed his own compositions to the screening of two Buster Keaton films, _Cops_ (1922) and _The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes_ (1924). The 16[th] of August featured a concert by Tsisana Kikabidze, the second in the _Young Virtuoso Series._ The evening’s second concert featured the world premiere of Helen Ottaway’s piece for piano, cello and two dancers _, Migraciones_ , commissioned for the Festival, followed by a concert of new music composed and performed by Carolina Cury and Konstantinos Damianakis. All concerts were unticketed and the general public, including those with disabilities, had free access to all Festival concerts. ## _Key outcomes_ The Festival attracted audiences of between 200 and 300 for each concert, an increase on previous festivals. They were pre-dominantly local but included a significant number from further afield in Spain, particularly Madrid, and from other countries including France and the UK. The international audience was testimony to the high standard of music and artists. For the local audience, which included several children, young people, and disabled, the Festival provided a rare opportunity to experience piano music of an international standard and to meet the artists themselves. Audience feedback was without exception positive, supportive and enthusiastic. ## **How the Public Have Benefitted.** The festival brought to a rural part of Spain piano music of different genres, including classical, jazz and contemporary, of a standard rarely found outside established capital city cultural centres. Audiences heard the world premiere of a piece by a contemporary composer and performed by a rising star in the field of contemporary music accompanied by an established cellist and two dancers from London’s Trinity Laban conservatoire. The film night included two original works performed by Ashley Hribar as soundtracks to two classic films; Ashley has an international reputation as a versatile musician with a deep interest in contemporary aesthetics. All concerts were free of charge and the general public, predominantly local people, were welcomed and encouraged to attend, to meet the musicians and composers, and to interact with festival volunteers. ## **Trustee Development** Trustees are encouraged to participate in development opportunities as and when appropriate. They have developed a Code of Governance and Responsibility by adopting the seven principles set out in the Code published by The Charity Governance Code Steering Group. _Page_ 4 _of_ 6 _Small Charity Support: Trustees’ Annual Report & Financial Statements_ ## **e) Financial Review** ## **Details of Any Funds Materially in Deficit** The Charity has no funds which are materially in deficit. ## **Policy on Reserves** Our policy on reserves is to generate and maintain a balance which is sufficient: to preserve the financial viability of the Charity if unforeseen and/or unavoidable circumstances precipitate a short-term fall in its income; to enable the Charity to set up new projects on a pilot basis to demonstrate the viability and potential benefits of such activities as a precursor to securing the necessary funding to maintain them on an on-going basis. For these purposes we will endeavour to generate and maintain reserves which are at least 10% of total annual income. ## **Principal Sources of Funding and Outgoings** The Festival benefitted from cash reserves of £7,635 following the 2023 Festival and from donations received in 2024. Of the £17,514 raised in 2025 £10,297 came from personal donations, £3,192 from grants made by other organisations, and £4,025 was raised from direct sales of drinks, food, brochures and Festival merchandise. Of the £18,866 total outgoings, £9,934 was for musicians’ fees, travel, and accommodation, £2,777 was for instrument hire and tuning, £2,673 for catering (musicians and the public). The remaining outgoings of £3,482 were for publicity, hire of chairs and tables, lighting and sound equipment, printing and miscellaneous costs. ## **Remuneration of Trustees** All Trustees act in a voluntary capacity and receive no remuneration or other material benefits from their services to the Charity. Simone Tavoni, Trustee and Artistic Director, performed an evening concert without remuneration. The Trustees met all their own travelling and accommodation costs and received no payment for any expense that they may have incurred in the execution of their services to the Charity. ## **Financial Status** Our current balance of £6,284 provides more than adequate pump-priming for the next edition of the Festival in 2027 and enables us to undertake any fund raising and minor charitable events in 2026 that meet our objects. ## **Statutory Statements on Liabilities** The Trustees declare that: the charity has given no guarantees where potential liability under the guarantee is outstanding at the date of this statement; the charity has no debt outstanding at the date of this statement which is owed by the CIO and which is secured by an express charge on any assets of the CIO.
