## **LOVE PURFLEET** ## **ANNUAL REPORT FOR YEAR ENDED 31/12/2021** Love Purfleet is a registered charity No 1193961 Its registered address is c/o Socketts Heath Baptist Church, Premier Avenue, Grays, Essex RM16 2SB The trustees during this period were: Andrew Wade (Chair), Claire Blatchford, Ashley Lovett and Alison Shorter. ## **Structure and Management** Love Purfleet has been established as a CIO. The principal purposes of the Church are the advancement of the Christian faith according to the principles of the Baptist denomination. The Church may also advance education and carry out other charitable purposes in the United Kingdom and/or other parts of the world. The four trustees met on a monthly basis. The trustees appointed in March 2021 are also representatives of other organisations: Andrew Wade, Eastern Baptist Association Rev Claire Blatchford, Cranham Baptist Church Rev Ashley Lovett, Socketts Heath Baptist Church Alison Shorter, Church 123 at Harold Hill. There is a wider steering group to support the trustees and provide resource and other support. The meetings of the trustees and steering group have taken place each month. The steering group are : Rev Simon Goddard (Rivertree) Malcolm Dunk (Upminster Baptist Church) Rev Tara Frankland (Anglican Team Leader for Mardyke Team Ministry) Rev Charlie Kosla (Anglican Fresh Expressions and previously at All Saints Church, Chafford Hundred). None of the trustees or the steering group receive any payment for their work. ## **Activity in year** The charity was registered in March 2021. A community bank account was opened with Barclays but this did not become operative until 4[th] September 2021 because the bank were very slow in carrying out relevant checks. Love Purfleet purchased a flat at 31 Windermere Avenue, Purfleet-onThames, RM19 1PZ and was able to take possession of this in very early November 2021 when the purchase was completed. This flat provides accommodation for the missional listener to live in and be based within the Purfleet-on-Thames community. Love Purfleet it the beneficial owner of this property whose ultimate trustees are the Baptist Union Corporation. It was purchased mainly using designated funds held by BUC resulting from the sale of the former Purfleet Baptist Church in 2009. Using the Baptist denomination’s ministerial settlement process the trustees appointed Rev Erica Bowler to take up the post of missional listener at Love Purfleet from 1[st] September following her graduation from Spurgeons College in July and subsequent ordination. Erica’s formal induction service took place at St Stephen’s Church in Purfleet on 2[nd] October 2021. Erica is tasked as a missional listener to explore the needs and requirements of the community in Purfleet-on-Thames for a twelve month period and prepare an audit and report with recommendations and directions for taking the work forward after that. Rev Erica Bowler is employed on a 50% basis to undertake this work. This is mainly funded by a Home Mission grant from the Eastern Baptist Association which began to be drawn down from 1[st] September. The charity appointed a bookkeeper in September to manage and prepare accounts. Love Purfleet is registered with HMRC for Gift Aid (Ref No ZD14689) and with Stewardship for giving to be made through them although there were no donations made in these ways in the September to December 2021 period. Love Purfleet has a written Safeguarding Policy in place (based on the Baptists Together template) and the Safeguarding lead is Alison Shorter. ## **Financial Report** A financial statement and accounts is attached separately.
