1.19|Our primary activity is to rescue poodle cross dogs
(“doodles”) either from situations where they have
been abandoned or from families who no longer want
them/ cannot cater for their needs. This can be for
many reasons – a change in circumstances for the
family (eg illness/ change of employment status/ new
baby/ marriage breakdown) or the doodle has
behavioural issues (commonly resource guarding but
could also be bite incidents or health issues), and the
family cannot cope or feel that it may be a threat to
their family dynamic if they keep the dog. These are
often very sad situations as owners generally don’t
wish to give up their much-loved pet, but feel they
have no alternative. We support those families while
finding out as much as we can about the doodle which
we then place into a carefully vetted foster home to
assess them prior to placing them with their adoptive
family. This assessment will often involve vets and
behaviourists as well as the foster family to ensure we
find them the most suitable “forever home”. We
maintain a Facebook page so that new owners can
update our ever-increasing doodle family. This is also
a place where we can launch fund raisers for particular
dogs with high cost needs (eg surgery) and appeal for
both foster and permanent homes.| |Statement confirming

whole.|Para 1.20|We have a very small team of volunteers at any one
time who cover all aspects of what we do. This
includes governance, financials, fund raising,
contracts, correspondence, complaint handling, as well
as the core operation of rescuing doodles, vetting
foster homes and finding forever homes after
extensive checks. The core operation falls mainly to
one Trustee, Susan Green, who increasingly is
providing a mentoring service to those who contact us
for whatever reason – thinking of giving up a doodle,
fosterers, adopters, past and future owners…. The list
is extensive and ever-growing and makes a massive
difference to those people. In some cases, it enables
a family to keep a much-loved doodle and in most
cases where a doodle is given up we find that the
fosterers will adopt that very same doodle because
they have been so well-matched and so much work is
put into ensuring the process runs smoothly.
Increasingly we are finding that we are involved in the
rescue of abandoned doodles and taking into care
doodles with serious health issues that could
potentially be euthanised. These doodles require even
more extensive support involving bringing together a
wide network of specialists and volunteers to support
both the doodle in question and the families that
volunteer to take them into foster and subsequently
adopt them. There will often be associated fund
raising activities for these very special doodles to
cover vet and behaviourist costs.
One such doodle that touched the hearts of all our
Members is Maddie. Maddie came to us from a
breeder and was born blind. She is a truly beautiful
doodle both inside and out, and with the support of
specialist vets, behavioural advisors providing very
individualised training and an amazing foster family
this little lady is leading a full and happy life. Her most
recent adventure was a sponsored walk to raise funds
for Doodle Rescue. Support for her and her family is
ongoing and will continue throughout her life- family
mentoring, behavioural and veterinary support will
enable to lead the full and fulfilling life that she
deserves.| ## **Financial Review** |Review of the charity’s

opening balance of £50,258. We were able to cover
all of our expenses from donations and adoption fees

health conditions will have a contingency fund put in
place for them on adoption. This will support the dog’s
new family with future vet bills, ensuring that they will
receive the best possible care going forward without
being a financial burden to the family. Whilst we will
put a limit on the fund, we need to be able to support
these and other doodles and we are unable to predict
when or how much support is needed. Although we
will try to fundraise where we can for specific dogs,
this rarely realises the amount needed to cover
expensive vet bills. Additionally, we are seeing dogs
in foster for longer periods of time which is costly. This
financial year we helped 49 dogs compared to the
previous year’s 72 – and yet our foster costs were

our work is from one person only – Susan Green.
With the increase in the “special needs” dogs we are
seeing, Sue’s time is spread very thin, and the work
encroaches onto her daily life and is mentally
exhausting. We need to find a way to address this and
support Sue to continue to provide the unique
mentoring service that makes Doodle Rescue such a
success and allows us to offer a chance for doodles
that have often been turned away from all other
rescues.
A further uncertainty is that we are almost a victim of
our own success. Unlike other foster-based rescue
charities, we don’t have a large bank of foster homes –
we source each foster home individually, based on the
specific needs of the doodle. This means that most
doodles are adopted by the same family that fosters
them, but that means that we constantly need to find
new foster homes and the doodle tends to remain in
foster for a longer time while we support with the
immediate and often complex health and behavioural
issues presented.
In this financial year we had a complaint from an
owner giving up her doodle who subsequently
changed her mind. We always act in the best interests
of the dog and in this case the foster to adopt home
was far safer than the original home. This case went
to Small Claims Court and was dismissed but this sort
of action takes up so much time and causes so much
stress for our small, dedicated team. The doodle in
question is leading a happy life and the previous
owner finally accepted that they had made the right
