**public, to relieve the suffering of dogs,**
**in particular poodle-cross dogs, in**
**need of care and attention.**
**Specifically, by placing such dogs into**
**foster homes whilst suitable permanent**
**homes are found for them or other**
**suitable facilities for their reception,**
**care and treatment.**|

1.19|**Our primary activity is to rescue poodle**
**cross dogs (“doodles”) either from**
**situations where they have been**
**abandoned or from families who no**
**longer want them/ cannot cater for their**
**needs. This can be for many reasons –**
**a change in circumstances for the**
**family (eg illness/ change of**
**employment status/ new baby/**
**marriage breakdown) or the doodle has**
**health or behavioural issues**
**(commonly resource guarding), and the**
**family cannot cope or feel that it may**
**be a threat to their family dynamic if**
**they keep the dog. These are often**
**very sad situations as owners generally**
**don’t wish to give up their much-loved**
**pet, but feel they have no alternative.**
**We support those families while finding**
**out as much as we can about the**
**doodle which we then place into a**
**carefully vetted foster home to assess**
**them. This assessment will often**
**involve vets and behaviourists as well**
**as the foster family to ensure we find**
**them the most suitable “forever home”.**
**We maintain a Facebook page so that**
**new owners can update our ever-**
**increasing doodle family. This is also a**
**place where we can launch fund raisers**
**and appeal for both foster and**
**permanent homes.**|

**benefit. Sadly, in this financial year we**
**have seen an increased number of**
**doodles who have been given up by**
**families due to serious behavioural**
**issues. Even with extensive**
**rehabilitation, it isn’t always possible to**
**rehome these doodles as we rehome to**
**families where there could be a**
**potential risk of harm. We sometimes**
**have to suggest alternative options to**
**owners but due to a large donation this**
**year we have been able to provide**
**some of these cases that have been**
**turned away by other rescues, with**
**extensive and long-term rehabilitation**
**so that they can safely be rehomed.**|

**at any one time – less than five, who**
**cover all aspects of what we do. This**
**includes governance, financials, fund**
**raising, contracts, correspondence, as**
**well as our core operation of rescuing**
**doodles, vetting foster homes and**
**finding forever homes after extensive**
**checks. We may liaise with**
**behaviourists, vets, kennels, other**
**rescues and dog wardens. We have**
**rehomed over 60 doodles in this**
**financial year as well as offered advice**
**on countless others to hopefully prevent**
**them from being rehomed and we**
**provide ongoing support to any family**
**who adopts one of our doodles. This is**
**a massive ask of our volunteers who do**
**an amazing job. Also our fosterers who**
**are also volunteers and who are**
**absolutely crucial in the early days**
**when a doodle may be quite traumatised**
**and in need of huge amounts of love**
**and support to start them on their**
**recovery journey, as well as playing a**
**major role in the assessment of the**
**doodles in their care to enable us to**
**ensure the dogs’ needs will be met in**
**their adoptive homes.**|

whole.|Para 1.20|**Doodle Rescue was incredibly fortunate**
**in receiving a massive £10,000 donation**
**from the charitable sector recruitment**
**specialists, Charity Job. This enabled**
**us to offer support to doodles that we**
**may have had to direct elsewhere,**
**simply because we have neither the**
**manpower nor the financial capacity to**
**assist. Indeed, many of these doodles**
**had been turned away by other dog**
**rescues. We were able to donate**
**towards the purchase of a kennel for**
**our behavioural advisor and IMDT**
**accredited trainer so that we can quickly**
**rescue doodles with uncertain or**
**unknown histories without having to**
**first find a suitable foster home. We**
**know for sure that in some cases, these**
**doodles would have been PTS as there**
**was no suitable alternative for them. We**
**also used the donation to support some**
**particularly challenging doodles – for**
**example Goldendoodle Banjo who was**
**at risk of being PTS who we funded on a**
**long-term rehabilitation programme**
**from which he was successfully**
**rehomed with Doodle Rescue support;**
**Mango – another goldendoodle who was**
**locked in a kitchen supposedly suffering**
**from sleep aggression and after round**
**the clock rehabilitation for 8 months**
**was successfully adopted; 7 year old**
**Sam with a bite history who was**
**rescued from an abusive home and**
**needed extensive rehabilitation; and 5**
**year old labradoodle Wilson who**
**needed extensive vet treatment for**
**Spondylosis which was diagnosed**
**whilst in foster.**
**We also fund raised to support the very**
**challenging rescue and long-term**
**rehabilitation of two dumped young**
**female Irish Doodles Eliza and Lorca**
**who all of our members took to their**
**hearts and who were both eventually**
**rehomed by their fosterers. Their**
**rescue was a huge operation involving**
**multiple rescue organisations, specialist**
**transport teams, vets, and some**
**amazing volunteers. Both dogs were in**
**a dreadful state but are now thriving in**
**their new homes.**|

**year show that we have a balance of**
**£50,258 compared to an opening**
**balance of £44,268. A large part of our**
**income of £46,729 was from one large**
**donation of £10,000 – excluding this our**
**income was at a similar level to the**
**previous year. Expenses at £40,739**
**evidence that we only had a small**
**surplus for the year of £5,990. Without**
**the large donation we would have either**
**used up some of our reserves or had to**
**limit our activity as we would have had a**
**deficit rather than a surplus.**|

**very healthy but was boosted by a one-**
**off donation of £10,000. We need to be**
**mindful of increasing costs of, for**

**groomers, dog food and other**
**necessary provisions. Additionally,**
**fund raising is becoming increasingly**
**challenging as our members suffer the**
**impact of the current cost of living**
**crisis. Most of the doodles we are being**
**contacted to support with require some**
**sort of rehabilitation and/ or vet**
**treatment, all of which is expensive.**
**This is at a time when the number of**
**dogs being relinquished is increasing.**
**We have to review each doodle that we**
**are approached about to ensure that we**
**have sufficient financial resource to**
**cope with the unexpected as well as the**
**known costs.**|
