## **Objectives and Activities**

||SORP reference||
|---|---|---|
|Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document|Para 1.17|Doodle Rescue is for the benefit of the
public, to relieve the suffering of dogs, in
particular poodle cross dogs, in need of care
and attention and in particular, by placing
such dogs into foster homes whilst
permanent homes are found for them or
other suitable facilities for the reception, care
and treatment of such dogs.|
|Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or services
identified in the accounts.|Para 1.17 and
1.19|Our primary activity is to rescue poodle
cross dogs (“doodles”) either from situations
where they have been abandoned or from
families who no longer want them. This can
be for many reasons – a change in
circumstances (new baby, return to the office
after home working, job change, marriage
breakdown), or - what we are finding more
and more – the doodle develops behavioural
issues and the family can no longer cope, or
feel that it may be a threat to their family
situation to keep the dog. These are very
sad situations, as owners generally don’t
want to give up their much-loved dog, but
feel they have no choice. We support those
families while finding out as much as we can
about their pet, and then place the doodle
into a carefully vetted foster home while they
are assessed (often involving behaviourists
and vets as well as the foster family) so that
we can find them the best possible “forever
home”. We maintain a Facebook page so
that new owners can keep everyone updated
with our ever-increasing doodle family. This
is also a place where we can launch fund
raisers and appeal for both foster homes and
forever homes. The accounts show
“partners Donations” which are payments to
some of the other organisations we work
with. We had a particularly sad rescue of a
family of 4 doodles–Mum Daisy, Dad|

|||Beanie and 2 pups. We found a small
rescue who were willing to work with us and
keep them safe and well cared for (Mum was
particularly poorly). This involved raising
funds for vet fees and to support them in the
rescue, so the Facebook presence was
particularly helpful in sharing their story that
although sad, had a happy ending with all 4
being successfully adopted.|
|---|---|---|
|Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit|Para 1.18|The Trustees confirm that guidance issued
by the Charity Commission for charities
preparing cash-based receipts and
payments accounts. As Doodle Rescue UK
prepares cash-based accounts we have had
regard to the regulatory requirements for
these. As our income exceeded £25000 in
this accounting period, we have this year
had our accounts independently reviewed
andverified.|

## **Achievements and Performance**

||SORP reference||
|---|---|---|
|Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.|Para 1.20|This has been our first full financial year
operating under Charitable Status and the
year has seen many changes for rescue
charities, and in particular for small, breed-
specific foster-based rescues such as our
own. Along with our fellow rescue charities,
we are continually challenged by the number
of people contacting us to rehome doodles
that haven't been properly socialised or
trained, suffer severe separation anxiety
when left alone or have significant
behavioural issues often arising from
incorrect handling/mismanagement of normal
puppy behavioursand just no longer fit
intotheir owners' post Lockdown world. We
have placed record numbers of doodles into
foster homes, rescued doodles from
distressing circumstances, including those
where their welfare needs are not being met
or where the owners are threatening to
euthanise or abandon them if we refuse to
take them, and then gone on to rehome them
successfully. As the cost-of-living crisis
began, donations decreased dramatically
whilst vet and behaviourist fees
increased. We are fortunate to have a small
number of dedicatedbehaviourists and
trainerswho provide us with many hours of
their"virtual"time and expertise to support
our more challengingdoodles to helpthem|

find their way back to a family home environment, but where one to one behaviourist/trainer support is required (as is very often the case with the dogs we are now seeing) these fees have also increased exponentially.

## **Financial Review**

|Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period|Para 1.21|Our accounts at the end of the financial year
show that we have a balance of £44,268
compared with our opening balance of
£35,556. Income (£34,852) is generated
from fund raisers (raffles and auctions as
well as donations) and adoption fees.
Payments (£26,140) are made to vets,
kennels, behaviourists, fosterers who are
reimbursed any expenses, and we make
donations to support any doodles that may
be in specialist rehabilitation (Partner
donations).|
|---|---|---|
|Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held|Para 1.22|We hold reserves as we cannot predict what
doodles we have at any one time and how
much financial support each will require. We
rescue doodles from very difficult situations,
and they may require expensive vet care as
well as having high ongoing costs post
adoption that we may contribute to. It may
be the case that we unexpectedly have to
place a dog in kennels if they need to leave
the family home urgently, while we find a
suitable foster. The ideal scenario is that we
fund raise when we are quiet leading to
reserves being held. In this accounting
period, we had just rescued a family of 4
doodles (Mum, Dad and 2 pups) and were
very actively fund raising to support their on-
going costs, knowing that Mum was very
poorly, and the pups would inevitably require
a number of vet visits.|
|Amount of reserves held|Para 1.22|£44,268|
|Reasons for holding zero
reserves|Para 1.22|**n/a**|
|Details of fund materially in
deficit|Para 1.24|**n/a**|
|Explanation of any
uncertainties about the
charity continuing as a going
concern|Para 1.23|Whilst we are very much a going concern,
we do need to be mindful of increasing costs
and potential reducing income.|

## **Additional information (optional)**

You may choose to include further statements where relevant about:

|The charity’s principal
sources of funds (including
any fundraising)|Para 1.47|Significant fund-raising events in this
financial year included a “warm and
fluffy” auction of hand knitted scarves
and hats donated to us, as well as funds
donated from a kind member running a
½ marathon. We raised significant funds
for the rescued doodle family from our
Facebook group by sharing their story
and updates.|
|---|---|---|
|Investment policy and
objectives including any
social investment policy
adopted|Para 1.46||
|A description of the principal
risks facing the charity|Para 1.46|The risks we face are similar to those
faced by all similar rescue charities – we
have a limited number of volunteers
dealing with an ever-increasing number
of rescue dogs. These dogs have more
complex issues than ever before and
require more specialist support before
they can be placed with families. The
risk is that costs outweigh income, and
wehave to turndogs away.|
|Other||It is worth noting that none of our
volunteers receive any payment.
Trustees, administrators, volunteers and
fosterers are all volunteers who receive
no payment other than expenses which
they often do not claim.|

## **Structure, Governance and Management**

|Description of charity’s
trusts:|||
|---|---|---|
|Type of governing document
(trust deed, royal charter)|Para 1.25|Doodle Rescue UK’s governing document is
our submission made to the Charity
Commission regarding our objectives when
we fist became a charity.|
|How is the charity
constituted?
(e.g unincorporated
association, CIO)|Para 1.25|Doodle Rescue UK is an unincorporated
association.|
|Trustee selection methods
including details of any
constitutional provisions e.g.
election to post or name of
any person or body entitled
to appoint one or more
trustees|Para 1.25|We have 3 trustees who were founding
members of the Rescue prior to becoming a
charity. At the start of the year, we had 4
trustees but in August 2022 one resigned
due to a change in her personal situation
meaning she didn’t have the time available
to be a trustee. She is still able to volunteer
for us in a limited capacity.|
