## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES**
## **FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31[ST] MARCH 2023**
The Trustees have pleasure in submitting the Report and Accounts for the period ended 31st March 2023.
## **Structure, Governance and Management**
As set out in the constitution, new trustees are inducted at a trustee meeting following their receipt of the constitution and the latest Annual Trustee Report. A period of training from trustees ensures new trustees are familiar with other policies and operational procedures.
SoW were pleased to welcome Mr Tim Watson as a trustee in May 2022 and Mr Phil Joiner as a trustee in March 2023. Tim will bring a professional level of financial control to the charity while Phil brings real wisdom and insight to the Board and together they will greatly strengthen our collective knowledge and experience.
We also record our deep gratitude and thanks to Mr Andrew Mantle as he hands on his responsibilities as Chief Operating Officer to the Board. We wish him well in his new post and with his young family.
## **Aim and purposes**
1. THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH THROUGH A VARIETY OF CREATIVE EXPRESSIONS SUCH AS TEACHING, WRITING AND PERFORMING. THIS WILL INFORM PEOPLE OF THE REASONS FOR FAITH IN GOD, AND ITS IMPACT ON AN INDIVIDUAL AND SOCIETY AS A WHOLE IF LIVED OUT HONESTLY AND WITH INTEGRITY. THIS WILL BE EXPRESSED IN WALES, OTHER PARTS OF THE UK AND OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD AS THE TRUSTEES SEE FIT. 2. THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION AND OF THE ARTS THROUGH PERFORMANCES, TRAINING AND THE ORGANISATION AND ADMINISTRATION OF COMMUNITY CHOIRS AND COMMUNITY ARTS PROJECTS. THESE ARE INTENDED TO BUILD CONFIDENCE IN INDIVIDUALS TO IMPROVE THEIR WELLBEING, AND THAT OF THOSE TO WHOM THEY PERFORM. THIS WILL BE EXPRESSED IN WALES, OTHER PARTS OF THE UK AND OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD AS THE TRUSTEES SEE FIT.
## **Objectives and Activities**
- To continue toestablish administrative processes, bank account and policies for SoW as a new charity;
- To carry out events and ministry as requested;
- To continue to transfer supporters’ giving from previous charity (Going Public) directly to SoW;
- To build up fresh financial & prayer supporters;
- To develop songwriting amongst the SoW collective and explore partnering with a publisher;
## **Achievements and Performance**
The work of SoW has continued at a steady rhythm throughout the year and many members of the SoW family have been involved in many excellent events. The following is a sample from across the year highlighting some of the more memorable events.

April 22 -
## SOW ACAPELLA Easter events
FREE community events around the Easter Story - bringing gospel truths through creativity for all ages.

## May 22 BIG CHURCH FESTIVAL
SOW performed on different stages of the national festival, using spoken word, song, creative writing, children’s workshops on creativity to the wider spectrum of the church.
## June 22 -
## CREATIVE EXCHANGE
Filming extra content for our YouTube channel of free creative workshops/ lessons/ content for individuals/ songwriters/ worship teams/ creative teams/ - workshops and lessons for the head, heart and hands of creatives.
## July 22 -
LOVE A GRANNY AND GRAMPS
The annual culmination of our love a granny and gramps project. Using HYMNS AND HANDS to bring to life memories for elderly people, also promoting creativity and the advancement of the gospel.
## September 22 -
## A WARM WELSH WELCOME
SOW musicians hosted an event for international students in Swansea. The SOW collective used music, story and poetry in a creative extravaganza of cultural nuance.
There were students from 16 nations present, as Wales was presented as the land of song and the bard through creative presentation.
## October 22 -
## SOW PARTNERSHIP CHOIRS -
We restarted our 3 weekly community choirs around South/ West Wales.
These choirs are cultivating creative community in these localities across WALES.
Singing is known to have positive influence for mental health, and we are seeing this outworked in these choirs.
## November 22 -
## RADIO BROADCAST ON REMEMBRANCE
SOW scripted and presented a 45 minute creative storytelling reflection on the theme of Remembrance.
## December 22
## SOW CHRISTMAS
SOW performed a tour of ‘carols and cocktails’ to full community centres, churches etc - Creatively presenting the Christmas story afresh.
## January 23
## CREATIVITY WORKSHOP FOR YOUTHWORKERS
SOW led a creativity workshop for youth workers in LLANELLI.
SOW led a workshop on exploring creative communication with young people. This workshop highlighted the different learners, visual, auditory, kinaesthetic and how communicating creatively can include a more diverse audience.
February 23 URBAN WORDSMITHS
4
SOW are gathering poets from around South Wales in an event called Urban Wordsmiths. This is to encourage poets to write and perform their work publicly.
March 23
GYMANFA GANU
4 SOW partnership choirs came together for a cultural and spiritual reflection on our National Day. All SOW choirs met for the first time; they sung individually and also learnt two songs as a whole ‘mass choir.’
## **Leadership**
SoW continues to be led by Cath and Dai Woolridge. Cath holds the position of Founding CEO and Dai is Joint CEO. They are supported by a team of 5 trustees:
Rob Jones (Chair), Fawn Parish, Sian Wyn Rees, Tim Watson and Phil Joiner
Trustees meet at least 3 times a year and there are various meetings involving different combinations of trustees with Cath and Dai throughout the year.
## **Reserves Policy**
SoW continues to hold a healthy reserve of £5,000 with the aim of having enough reserves to be able to cover 4 months expenses. Our aim is to grow our income to be able to employ Cath full time and Dai for a day.

I report on the accounts of the Trust for the period ended 31[st] March 2023, which are set out on pages 9 to 12.
## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
- examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
- to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **Basis of independent examiner's report**
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect:
- accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act or
- the accounts do not accord with the accounting records
I have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **6. Staff and Trustees**
The charity has one part-time employed member of staff. Its activities are generally carried out by volunteers. No staff received salaries at a rate of more than £60,000 per annum.
No remuneration or trustee expenses were paid to any other trustee during the year, nor to any person connected to them.
