## **RASTRICK JUNIOR FOOTBALL CLUB - Charity Number 1193874**

## **TRUSTEES’ REPORT**

The trustees are pleased to present their annual report and financial statements for the financial year ended 31 March 2025.

## **CHARITY OBJECTS**

The Charity [the “Club”] was registered with the Charity Commission as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation on 22 March 2021 and its Objects are:

“The promotion of community participation in healthy recreation for the benefit of children and young people living in, but not restricted to, Rastrick and surrounding areas, by the provision of facilities for playing football.”

## **ACTIVITIES**

The Club provides football activities for well over four hundred young people, both boys and girls, with activities structured around age groups, from mini kickers at age 5 through to young adults aged 18. We participate in the Huddersfield and District Junior Football League which runs leagues from Under 7 to Under 18 age groups and in the West Riding Girls League at Under 10 and Under 12 levels.

It is common for young people to join the Club at the age of 5 when they have just started primary school and to remain with the Club until the age of 18 when they are entering the world of work or further education. The Club has a significant impact on the lives of many young people, helping them form lasting friendships and connections and supporting them to develop key life skills, including teamwork and communication skills.

Our emphasis is on providing young people with the opportunity to play football in a positive and supportive atmosphere, through which player development is encouraged and participation is prioritised over winning. Young people are welcome, irrespective of ability.

We welcome players, parents and supporters from all backgrounds, as defined by the protected characteristics within the Equality Act 2010.

During the year, our recently completed clubhouse fully opened, providing improved facilities for young people. We wish to reiterate our appreciation to the Football Foundation, Garfield Weston, Rastrick Big Local, Rastrick Grammar School Foundation and the many volunteers who helped make the dream of a clubhouse a reality. The new club house provides changing rooms, toilets, a kitchen and meeting facilities.

In June 2024 we held a football tournament which was attended by hundreds of young children and spectators. As well as providing football activities, the tournament allowed us to raise essential funds for our charitable activities, and the tournament was one of several fundraising events that we held during the year.

We are committed to making our activities as accessible as possible and we recognise the challenging financial situation in which many families find themselves. No child is ever denied the opportunity of playing football because their family is unable to afford the cost; our player subscription fees were less than £4.00 per week, for which children receive a playing kit and access to a range of football facilities, including all-weather football pitches.

## **IN MEMORIAM**

Since the Club was formed in 1991, many hundreds of children have benefitted from their involvement with the Club and hundreds of people have volunteered their time to support the

2

club in a range of capacities, including as football coaches, referees and fundraisers.

One such volunteer was Norman Hurdus who sadly passed away in September 2024, aged seventy-one, after a battle with cancer. Norman had been involved with the Club from its early days, initially bringing his own child to play football, and then becoming a football coach. Norman coached the mini-kickers group for many, years until just a matter of months before his death. Norman was patient, enthusiastic and encouraging and he epitomised the very best in junior football; he will be sorely missed by everyone at the Club but remembered with huge fondness for the person he was and the difference he made.

## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT**

The overall management and governance of the Charity is carried out by a committee of volunteer trustees which delegates the day-to-day running of the charity to an Operational Committee comprising trustees and other volunteers.

The trustees have responsibility for ensuring the Charity is properly funded through subscriptions and other means, including grants and fundraising activities.

The Charity has developed a Strategic Risk Register which highlights a range of risks, including risks relating to child safeguarding, health & safety and financial management. For all identified risks, mitigation measures are in place which are subject to regular review.

The Charity regularly reviews its operations to ensure they are delivering a significant public benefit, as required by the Charity Commission. In so doing, we ensure the Club is open and accessible and that the focus of the Club is on providing opportunities for young people to engage in healthy recreational activities, with all the health and social benefits that this brings.

## **INCOME AND EXPENDITURE (PROFIT & LOSS)**

The total income for the year ending 31 March 2025 was £149,471.

## **EXPRESSIONS OF APPRECIATION**

We should like to express our appreciation to the many volunteers and local businesses that support the Charity and make possible the activities that we provide in the community - the Club simply could not do what it does without them.

In particular, we should like to express our appreciation to Rosehill Polymers (based in Sowerby Bridge), B. Whites Butchers (based in Rastrick) and to Heffernans (based in Brighouse).
