THE HARGREAVES NARROWBOAT TRUST
ANNUAL REPORT 2021 - 2022
Trust Organisaton and Development
In a major step forward for the Trust, our new electric narrowboat, Hargreaves II, was launched in May 2021. Thanks are due to all organisations who provided funding, especially The National Lottery Community Fund. Our design team spent many hours designing a boat which met our needs and was environmentally friendly.
The Trust welcomed 4 new trustees in March 2021 to assist in the management of the Trust. The three monthly meetings have been most successful in keeping all volunteers up to date. The meetings also enable everyone to give feedback to the Trustees on the operation and management of the Trust.
Covid – 19 Restrictons
Unfortunately due to restrictions we were unable to operate normal trips until July 2021 which was very disappointing especially as Hargreaves II was delivered in May 2021.
Most groups were still reluctant to be in a confined space aboard a narrowboat for many weeks after the restrictions were lifted.
Volunteers
The Trust maintained a constant level of volunteers throughout the season but recruitment commenced at the end of the season to increase the number by at least 4 in preparation for the 2022 – 2023 season. All trips were able to be crewed satisfactorily.
Hargreaves II
The new boat performed well over the season with only a few minor problems which were quickly resolved. Improved access ramp will need to be sourced before the commencement of the new season. Batteries performed well and solar input reduced the running costs considerably.
Financial
The amount given as a donation for a trip increased slightly and the sale of souvenirs improved. Passengers continued to donate to the tea fund. Bank balances remained healthy at the end of the year despite heavy expenditure on capital items.
