## **Annual Report of Trustees:** Stoke St Michael Woodland. **Report period:** 02/07/2022 to 1/7/2023. **Aims and Objectives of Charity:** The charity is responsible for the direct management of the area known as the Millennium Wood in Stoke St Michael. It aims to manage the woodland, safely as a site that enables wide access for the community, enabling health and wellbeing, and enhanced education opportunities for the local school and other community interest groups. ## **Review of Activities:** The group continued to deliver several community scrub cutting activities in the winter of 2022 to raise the profile of the Wood as an asset for the village and local communities. We have increased the number of volunteers attending these, seeing a regular turnout of up to twelve volunteers. As well as trustees meeting on a quarterly basis, we have also updated the 5-year management plan and planned activities for the winter of 2023-2024 including planning hedge laying to enhance biodiversity and grass cutting to create a new events space and to install a new bench for visitors, and to upgrade the main steps into the woodland. ## **Health & Safety:** We continue to monitor the woodland monthly to ensure that all access routes and site furniture (e.g., gates) are safe and secure. There have been no issues identified, however we have noticed ash dieback in the woodland and as result will be removing some ash trees as part of a regular programme. We will replat in areas where the ash trees have been removed using a mix of native species, and where possible allowing natural regeneration. ## **Footpath Maintenance:** Throughout 2022 and 2023 the woodland group have continued to maintain footpaths through voluntary cutting. This was by a trained operator.
