Trustees are usually familiar with our work or they may attend some of the workshops offered by City of Sanctuary. TVoS has the following policies in place: - Internal Financial Controls - Due Diligence - Conflicts of Interest - Social Media - the charity’s organisational structure and any wider network with which the charity works; - Safeguarding - relationship with any related parties; - trustees’ consideration of major risks and the system and procedures to manage them. ## **Section C Objectives and activities** TVoS is part of the bigger City of Sanctuary movement which follows these objects: **Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document** Encouraging towns, areas, places, organisations and institutions to become welcome and safe, through the provision of information, advice and support; Advancing the education and training of people who are refugees or asylum seekers; Liaising with other private, voluntary and statutory organisations on relevant issues Promoting activities to foster understanding between the general public, refugees and asylum seekers March **2012** **TAR** 2 ## Activities undertaken: - Working with schools and colleges to encourage them to become Schools of Sanctuary - Promoting community cohesion through our work with schools and colleges - Providing training for sectors of the NHS to improve their understanding of refugee issues. - Promoting a better understanding of the mental health of refugees and asylum seekers. - Work alongside a researcher on theory of change to enable collaborative working on mental health. **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** - Feedback to refugee charities of research findings. - Working with UASC (Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children) to gain knowledge of their needs. - Attending training, workshops, meetings and AGM to learn from and share with other CoS groups. - Supporting campaigns that will improve the lives of the RAS community. - Awareness raising about refugee rights. ## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)** You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about: - policy on grantmaking; - policy programme related investment; - contribution made by volunteers. March **2012** **TAR** 3 Section D Achievements and performance **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** There has been an increase in the number of schools applying to become schools of sanctuary. Four schools have achieved the award and two school and two colleges are working towards accreditation. There is a greater awareness of the mental health issues that can affect people seeking sanctuary. After training provided to TEWV NHS, Stockton and Middlesbrough MIND, jobs were created for people to work specifically with the RAS community. There is improved use of mental health services and a specialist service specifically for people seeking sanctuary has begun to provide group therapy sessions for different communities. Work to obtain Local Authority of Sanctuary status is ongoing in three out of five of our region’s LAs.
