SUSTAINABLE INCOME AND BE SELF-SUFFICIENT.
Summary of the main activities inaugural undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)
Our projects in 2023-24 Supporting refugees from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) OAF supported forcibly displaced families from Nagorno-Karabakh, who faced a critical situation as winter approached. These families urgently needed heating devices and fuel to endure the harsh weather. The Karabakh Armenian community, deeply rooted in family values, often marries young and raises large families under one roof. Tragically, since December 2022, these families have been deprived of essential resources, including food, medicine, and heating fuel, leaving them with urgent needs. In response, OAF provided heating devices and fuel to support 150 families during this challenging time. Developing reading skills at pre-school This project aimed to provide professional development training to preschool teachers living and working in remote villages of Armenia. We developed a curriculum for facilitator-led online training sessions to help teachers foster children's love of reading, socio-emotional skills, reading motivation, and comprehension in a safe, child-centered learning environment. In partnership with NorArar, an educational charity specialising in literacy, we recruited and trained six community reading facilitators with a passion for reading to deliver a unique early-years reading curriculum. The project also involved acquiring books and providing training to local teachers and librarians to support its implementation. Engage & Empower Project Engage & Empower is a program of safe, fun and engaging afterschool clubs where children learn through experiences. 2023-24 project targeted disadvantaged and remote schools that had previously benefited from book donations. We provided the necessary supplies and local teachers to run a variety of free afterschool clubs: foreign language learning, arts and crafts creations, science experiments or sports clubs.

We believe after-school clubs provide a space for children to engage in situations where they put into practice core skills such as critical thinking, public speaking and confidence building. This project aims to empower rural children to think positively to overcome obstacles and achieve their own goals.
One school library a month project
This project is driven by the necessity to close the educational gap between urban and rural areas of Armenia. We aim to create easy access to books in disadvantaged schools in an effort to support literacy skills building and engage children to develop their curiosity and critical thinking.
To achieve this goal, we have partnered with Teach for Armenia to identify schools in need of engaging library books. Each month, we work with a school community to provide a range of fiction and nonfiction books to boost their library stock.
With a £300 budget per school library per month, we can buy a stock of modern extracurricular books managed by a TeacherLeader. Together with the teachers, we handpick each book according to novelty, popularity and subject-based books complementing lessons.
We kickstarted the project this month with our first school library beneficiary: Zangakatun Middle School and its 150 pupils in the Ararat region are about to receive book donations to replenish its library.
