Chairman’s report
My thanks to all the trustees and volunteers who have been most proactive throughout the year promoting the sport of Power Hockey. They held several taster days in schools throughout Merseyside, exhibited the sport in Belle Venue Manchester and most importantly help develop interest in potential Hubs in Wigan, Warrington and Coventry.
There are currently 6 Hubs up and running throughout the UK in Liverpool, Burton on Trent, Gloucester, Middlesbrough. Cardiff and Coventry. The Darlington Hub closed during the year. The Hubs provide a base for Power Hockey to be played on a weekly basis, and help promote the sport in the local areas.
The taster days show Power Hockey is an exciting fun fast paced contact sport that gives severely disabled people and those with limited mobility an opportunity to compete using the specially designed power sport chairs.
Thanks to the fund-raising committee for their tireless work, to our Sponsor Care Preference and to all the volunteers and supports of the sport. The fund-raising committee have identified the need for a Project Officer and are applying for grants to this end. Fund raising events included a 24 hour none stop Power Hockey game organised by Liam Ashton. Funds raised during the year to 31[st] March 2025 amounted to £11,974 with expenditure of £3,374. Cash fund from last year £1,967 leaves a bank balance of £!0,567 as at 1[st] April 2024.
As the sport grows, we intend to provide more coaching and official educational courses for the Hubs. It is important to continue the work of involving disable children through come and try sessions and school competitions at the Hubs throughout the UK.
The Power Hockey league final, in July 2024, was won by St Georges Knights from our Burton Hub. This year the league had regional venues in Gloucestershire and Middlesbrough. The top two team from each conference then competed in the finals at the Greenbank Sports Academy in June 2025. Greenbank Bears won with Cardiff City coming second.
In November there will be a development cup tournament for new teams from Warrington, Widnes, Coventry, Liverpool, Cardiff, Gloucester and potentially Batley.
Thanks must go to Peter Wyman and Ellis Palmer for their work in organising the various tournaments and taster sessions this year
Thanks to sponsorship from Slater Gordon we can continue with the work growing the game throughout the Liverpool City Region and the M62 corridor.
Throughout the year considerable work has been undertaken on refining the Rules of the sport and on classification of players. A video of the “Rules of the Game” made be Alex Jones can be viewed on You Tube, alongside live streams of the Northern Conference and the finals day at Greenbank which were filmed by Colin Duffy. A
special thanks to Michelle Charnock who have provided professional photography that greatly helps promotion of the charities work.
At the AGM 9[th] September 2025 two trustees resigned Steve Sullivan and Marcus Harrison. The following were approved as trustees Asma Aliakma, Brian Dix, Helen Barry, Shannon Smith and Alex Parry.
