Chairman’s report

Thanks to all the trustees and volunteers who have been pro-active throughout the year 2022/23 promoting the sport of Power Hockey and making for a successful year.

Considerable work that has been undertaken especially in relation to the development of Hubs and the number of participants in Power Hockey. Hubs are set up in Birkenhead, Burton, Liverpool, Cardiff and Durham. Work is also underway to set up Hubs in Middleborough and Gloucestershire. This was best illustrated with the inaugural Power Hockey Championship held on the 13[th] May 2023

The trustees have set an ambitious target to establish a national league for power hockey starting in January 2024 with regional events and the National Championships to be held at Greenbank Sports Academy over 2 days.

To cover the cost of the new season for Power Hockey and Power Football in 2023/2024 we will need to raise additional funds £25K in 2023/24 and a further £34K in 2024/25. The Hub based at the Greenbank Sports Academy club has 20 players and continues to rise. The trustees have held a number of come and try sessions for young people in special schools and clubs throughout the UK to over 200 people and plans are for a short promotional video to facilitate this work.

The increasing numbers has necessitated the need for additional Equaliser power sports chairs with some additional specialist equipment such as a “Kill Switch” to remotely control the chair and some “micro joystick” for players with minimal finger movement.

To accommodate the increasing membership we aim to have a team in the WFA Premier League and in the WFA Championship league be the 2024/25 season for Power Football.

A number of consultation meetings with Power Hockey Hubs were held during the year to discuss changing rules of Power Hockey prior to setting up a National League in 2024. Training courses for referees and more coaching courses are to be organised in next year.

To facilitate the promotion and development of Power Hockey the Trustees will aim to raise funding for a development officer and a part-time Admin/promotion officer.

At the AGM one trustee Mark Palmer resigned and two trustees were appointed Brian Dix and Alexander Jones.
