TREASURER’S REPORT

You should all have received the accounts by email. If anyone hasn’t, there are a few printed copies available.

You will note these accounts cover the period from 9[th] March 2023 to 5[th] April 2024. The CIO was formed on 8[th] March 2023 and hence that became the year end. This however is in the lead up to the Spring production which meant the figures were spread over two accounting years. To solve this, the year-end has been changed to 5[th] April and this is the transitional period.

These accounts, therefore, do not show the complete position with regard to Cinderella, but I can confirm Sally’s report from last year that overall it made a profit of £676.48 over five performances. The figures for the two subsequent productions are shown in full in these accounts. ‘Whipping It Up’ was an expensive production to stage and so, although we played to three full houses, it made a significant loss. As a result the trustees decided reluctantly to raise ticket prices for the first time in many years. As a result of this and substantially lower staging costs ‘The Old People Are Revolting’ yielded a good profit.

Thanks are also due to the generosity of the donor of raffle prizes and, as Cecilia has already said, the organisers of the quiz nights which, as well as being enjoyable evenings, made a good contribution to our income.

Overall our financial position has improved from £3,078 in March 2022 and £4,127 in March 2023 to £5,374 now. Against this needs to be set the warning we have received from the VHT that rental costs for the Parish Hall will rise later this year. This item is always the greatest cost of any production but the VHT have accepted that we are ‘a special case’ and we await a meeting to discuss the detail.

On the positive side, your treasurer has been dragged kicking and screaming into the 21[st] century. I am told that for future events a card payment system that works will be available. More details later.

In case you’re not already aware subs are now due. The recommendation for next year is to keep them at the current rate - £10 single, £17 family – and payment is most efficiently made by bank transfer, although I’m happy to take cash tonight.
