Report of the trustees for the year ended 31st Marth 2022
The trustees present their first annual report and financial statements of the charity for the
year ended 31" March 2022. These statement5 have been prepared in accordance wlth the
Charities Act 1993 and with SORP IFRSSE}, Statement of Recommended Practice applicable
to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for
Smaller EntÉties leffertive l January 2015).
Financial statements have been prepared by the charity treasurer, who is a qualified.
Chartered Accountant ICIMAI. Independent revlew of accounts Is not requlred as charlty
income for this period was less than £25.000.
Structure and governance
The Frlends of Old Buckenham Windmill was established on 8 March 2021 as a Charitable
Incorporated Organisation ICIOI. The charity was set up to formalise the long-standing
volunteerwork by residents of Old Buckenham, and to support open and transparent
fundraising and grant i55uing for the benefrt of the Old Buckenham Windmill. Volunteers
provide public access to the historitally signlficant mlll, and fundralse to support Its
restoration and preservation.
The trust is governed in accordance with its constitution document {&h March 20211. There
are four founding trustees, all of whom remain in post at the time of thi5 report. No new
trustees were appointed.

In accordance with the trust's constitution. there must be a minimum of three charity
trustees, and a maximum of six. New trustees are appointed by a resolution passed at a
properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. In selerting individuols for appointment,
existing trustees must have regard to the 5ki115, knowledge and experience needed for the
effective administration of the organi5ation.
Objectives and activities for public benefit
The objectlves of the CIO are:
The advancement of education and the preservation, protection and maintenance of Old
Buckenham Windmill for the public benefit. in particular but not exclusively by all or any of
the following means:
Supporting the work of the Norfolk Mills & Pumps Trust to repalr, refurblsh and
restore Old Buckenham Windmill to sound condition and workin8 order.
Conservin8 and maintainin8 the mill as a workin8 museum, open to the public.
Developlng and malntalnlng an educational centre and visitor facilities on the mill
site so as to attract visitors and develop their awareness and understonding of the
heritage asset. including the provision of acce55 for all people.
Relationships wlth other parties
Old Buckenham Windmill 15 owned by Norfolk County Council and operated bythe Norfolk
Mills & Pumps Trust IRe8iStered Charity 1033274}. The Friends of Old Buckenham Windmill
charty operates with complete independence from these other parties. but collaborates
closely with and supports the work of the Norfolk Wlndmlll trust, as It relates to Old
Buckenham Windmill.
Achievements & performance
While covid has prevented volunteers being able to open the mill to the public durin8 this
year, trustees are incredibly proud of the successful fundralsing activities which have taken
place. Events such as 'Miles for the Mill. have raised significant funds for the charity and
have also continued to engage the local community in support of the mill. This one activity
raised £8,127.78 from a combination of volunteer fundraisin8 and match funding from an
anonymous local donor. PartiClP3nts were encouraged to walk or run and keep track of the
number of miles covered over the full 2021 calendar year. Collectively over 25.000 miles
were walked, which was enough to circumnavigate the globe.

Financial Review
With the formation of the charity in 2021, initial funds of £7,719.91 were received upon
closure of the account forthe'old Buckenham Windmill Committee,. This sum represented
the full holdings of the infom)al local group which preceded this charity, whose income was
obtained through windmlll open days, sale of merchandise and fundraising events. A further
£8,534.75 was raised through the 2021 'Miles for the Mill, sponsored event and associated
match fundlng from a local donor. Outgoings in 2021-2022 were limited to mlnor
administrative and sundry costs only.

Trustee< responsibilities in relatlon to the flnanclal statements
The trustees are responsible for preparlng the Trustees, Report and the financial statements
in accordance wtth applicable law and United Klngdorn Accounting Standards. The law
applicable to charÉties in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial
statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the State of affairs of
the charlty and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charlty for that
period. In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to:
select suitable accounting policies and then app￿ them consistently;
observe the methods and principles of the Charities SORP IFRSSEI;
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent,.
state whether applicable accounting Standards have been followed, subjert to any
departures disclosed and explained in the finantial statements,. and:
prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate
to presume that the charity will continue in business.
The trustees are responsible for keepin8 accounting records which dlsclose with reasonable
accuracy the financlal posltlon of the charlty and enable them to ascertain to ensure that
the financial statements comply with the Charlties Act 1993, the Charity (Accounts and
Reports) Regulations 2CK)8 and the provisions of the trust constitution. They are also
responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps
for the prevention and detertion of fraud and other irre8ularities. The trustees are
responsible for the maintenance and integrity of the chaf ity and financial infomiation
included on the charitys online pages.
