Charity Status
The Charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. It was incorporated and registered on 2 March 2021. The charity registration number is 1193680. The registered charity name is ‘The Bobsleigh Skeleton & Ice Sports Foundation’, and it also has the working name of ‘Ice Sports Foundation - Super Sliders’. It is registered with HMRC for Gift Aid.
Charitable Objects:
The objects of the Ice Sports Foundation (ISF) are for the public benefit, the advancement of Amateur Ice Track Sports, including bobsleigh, Luge and Skeleton by:

Advancing the education in the sport of young people under the age of 25 years by the provision of grants, funding and support so as to enable them to fulfil their potential
-
The relief generally of young persons who are physically or mentally disabled from their disabilities by facilitating their participation in amateur ice track sporting events.
Chairman’s Statement:
Notwithstanding the impact of the pandemic and periods of lockdown the ISF continued to move forward with its development in designing and delivering its launch event and designing the Super Sliders Bronze programme to be delivered at the University of Bath by the British Bobsleigh Association and Super Slider ambassadors.
Fundraising to support the Super Slider programmes continues to attract generous donors. The Board of Trustees have worked diligently to provide appropriate and energetic support to ensure good governance and growth in the potential of ISF with the ongoing capability to attract donors, additional trustees, volunteers and ambassadors.
I look forward to the current potential for growth and the capability to deliver ISF programmes to our target population to continue and grow.

This was a period primarily of foundation building and launching the ISF:

Additional Trustees appointed;

Charity incorporated and bank account set up;

Strategic Vision, Values and Pillars (together the Strategic Plan) developed;

Launch event held in July 2022, with associated seed fundraising completed.

Much preparation for our inaugural Super Sliders Bronze Programme has been undertaken, which is how the Trustees will continue to deliver the ISF’s vision.

Highlights:
The launch event was held at the Cavalry & Guards Club on 6 July 2022 with the dual purpose of raising the charity`s profile and raising funds. Approximately 70 guests attended the event, which took the format of a wine reception hosted by Private Cellars along with speeches from the Chairman and Ambassadors, Laura Deas, Lamin Deen and Corie Mapp. There was an auction, hosted by Felix Hale, and containing lots donated by our supporters.
Preparation for the inaugural Bronze Event : Considerable time has been taken to ensure the course design, in partnership with the British Bobsleigh & Skeleton Association (BBSA), is appropriate for our needs. The Trustees are confident that it will be and are committed to gathering feedback from participants on the day so its impact can be assessed, in line with our Strategic Goals. In parallel with the course design, partnerships have been forged with youth groups who will be accessing the programme.

Risk Policy:
The Trustees have considered the risks associated with running the charity, in particular the safeguarding obligations arising from working with young people. Further work is required to ensure appropriate policies and procedures to manage these risks are in place before any programmes are run.
Charity Governance and Management
At this point in time, all work associated with running the charity is carried out by the Trustees and where appropriate, in collaboration with qualified professionals (i.e. legal and accountancy). These activities are managed via regular trustee meetings, with minutes and corresponding action lists as appropriate.
Plans for the Future
The Trustees plan to fundraise sufficient monies to deliver the Charitable Objects, with a focus
on:
-
Delivering Super Slider events in partnership with our Ambassadors and the BBSA;
-
Raising additional funds; and,
-
Continuing to build out our policies, processes and governance, making sure they are up to date and in line with all requirements.
Financial Review
The statement of financial activities is on page 9. Total income in the form of donations received (less fees to payment processors - Stripe and iZettle) totalled £23,334.09. Necessary expenses, focused on our launch and fundraising event, were £2,233.48
In preparing the financial report, the Trustees all agree on the importance of processing expenses and reimbursements in a timely manner so they hit the correct financial year, along with the development of a robust accrual process over the year end process. As a result of these processes not yet being in place, some basic expenses are missing from this financial year, such as website hosting costs, and though they have been settled in a timely manner they will hit the next financial year’s accounts.
The Charity is in good shape financially, with a bank balance in line with the Reserves Policy, though we do anticipate some large expenses in the coming months as we build out and deliver the first Bronze Programme. Therefore it is critical that further funds are raised as a matter of priority.
Compensation to Trustees was nil.

Public Benefits
The Trustees have due regard to the guidance published by the Charity Commission in relation to public benefit requirements.
Reserves Policy
The reserves policy is to maintain a balance of at least £10,000 in the bank account.
Conflicts Policy
The trustees are committed to making decisions based only on what’s best for the ISF. However, they also recognise that there may be times when personal interests, or the interests of people or organisations connected to them have the opportunity to influence these decisions.
The trustees are required to stay up to date on matters pertaining to conflicts as part of their ongoing training, and have been made aware of the resources available to them, including - Managing conflicts of interest in a charity GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Trustees are all aware of their responsibilities:

To identify conflicts when they arise
-
To declare them asap when they do arise
-
To consider removing them, particularly if it is a serious conflict
-
To manage it, if it is not appropriate to remove it
The Secretary is responsible for keeping a record of conflicts of interest, ensuring they record what the conflict is, who it affected, when it was declared and how it was managed.
Trustees:
The governance documents provide for at least three and no more than nine Trustees. The power to appoint new Trustees is vested in the existing Trustees. Every trustee must be appointed for a term of two years by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees.
Tony Wallington OBE OLY was appointed on 2 March 2021. Sarah Krebs was appointed on 15 June 2021. Jennifer Suman was appointed on 15 December 2021. Jeremy Elms was appointed on 1 December 2022. Gerardine Hogarth and Adam Cakebread were appointed on 18 April 2023. Joe Henderson was appointed 2 March 2021 and resigned, effective 1 June 2022. Henrietta Alderman was appointed on 25 November 2021 and resigned, effective 1 December 2022.

Trustees’ Responsibilities in relation to the Financial Statements
The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees Annual Report and the financial statement in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Account Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires what Trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the income resources and application of resources of the charity for that period In preparing these financial statements the Trustees are required to:

select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
-
observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP;
-
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
-
State whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and,
-
Prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in business.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the Charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the governing document. Theory are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
