DDMIX

The Report of the Trustees

The trustees present their report and the audited financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2022

During 2022 we further discovered that when dealing with the public sector, such as the school system, one has to be determined, but above all flexible, in order to ensure one’s intervention is effective. We have found that, as hard as we might try, primary school teachers are not willing, in sufficient numbers, to learn basic movement to music moves in order to lead their students in a program such as DDmix.

As a result, we have augmented our original offering, by Darcey and a senior team member now giving live stream classes to schools for free and offering a follow up plug and play option for the school thereafter, so that they can adopt our dance fitness program as widely as possible. That is to say, we have decided to use technology and go for volume at the expense of price.

In light of this change and the results we have seen, our new objectives for 2026 (which were delayed by 2 years in light of Covid) have advanced to become: One: 100,000 primary school students do DDmix at least once in a 12 month period. Two: We reach the number of 400 participatory schools in one 12 month period. Three: DDmix continues to ensure that evaluation data is incorporated in its stages of growth. Four: DDmix achieves a self-funding position.

As chair of the Board of Trustees, I have pushed my fellow Trustees and our leadership group to grab the opportunity to achieve impact now and work out our path to self-funding second. I knew that with DDmix having adjusted our cost base over the last year to be very lean (with our changed labour model), existing revenues and generous philanthropic backing, would see us maintain a roughly breakeven position as we pursued this path of greater short-term intervention.

FINANCIALS Year January 1[st] 2022 to December 31[st] 2022 Revenue £147,191 Costs £133,882 Surplus £13,309 Cash as of 31[st] December 2022 £36,950

Our first live class was in September 2022, and we had over 1,000 schools attending, with 30k students participating. We have more live classes planned for 2023 and Darcey and the team really enjoy giving them.

In March 2022, Will Quince Under Secretary of State of Education accompanied by Susan AcklandHood Permanent Secretary Department of Education, visited The Albion School in East London to watch DDmix in action, observing two classes. During the summer of 2022 DDmix participated in the government’s summer challenge.

Giselle Parker, CEO, and Darcey Bussell, Founder, are supported by our wonderful team of Amy Rowbottom: Head of Schools, Victoria Selway: Liaison Officer and Sarah Verity-Gibbons: Social Media and Marketing.

Our Trustees, Jo Manoukian, Matthew Cunningham and myself remain unchanged.

………………………… Signed by Angus Forbes, Chair DDmix on behalf of the DDMIX Trustees.
