I hereby submit the report on behalf of The Hub At Bridgwater & Trustees of The Hub At Bridgwater.
During the year 23/24 The Hub was increasingly busy with post covid projects. The main one being establishing a digital cafe and employment of a digital coordinator. This has been successful in its setup and will continue until Nov 2023.
Our reminiscence cafe runs regularly each week bringing together both people living with dementia and their families and carers in a supportive and friendly environment. Due to the increase in volunteers, we have had come on board we have been able to expand our café to include a reminiscence pod. This includes visual, auditory and sensory experiences.
Our collaborative approach with other organisations continues to benefit the wider community and individuals. This support reaches out to all ages, ethnicities, genders and abilities. As part of this we have established an inclusive safe space each week on a Sunday with the view to expand this once we have relocated. Once relocated we will have a dedicated space open 7 days a week.
We have fed many people and brought together many older people who have been engaged in our community fridge project in conjunction with other local food champions we have fed homeless people and those living alone, including over 300 Christmas meals. The above has led to a weekly community lunch, bringing together a wide range of people across the community, including homeless, elderly, those supported by probation service and mental health projects.
As part of this we hold a veterans breakfast for local armed forces and veterans breakfast club, ensuring support for veterans and encouraging their inclusion in to the community and assisting with finding the right support for their specific needs, this is not limited to housing, mental health, social exclusion and disability support. There is also a widow/widower support group included in this.
Through our fundraising we have been able to fund our projects and with those who we have partnered to benefit the wider area around Bridgwater & Sedgemoor. We have made donations to local groups who fit with the aims and objectives of the hub.
The trustees wish to thank all of those volunteers from the many groups who have used The Hub for their selfless hard work and commitment to others in times of need.
So many people have benefitted from The Hub’s projects and others ran by partner groups at The Hub. Rescued food has fed the community and rescued equipment not of any use locally has been shared with international projects in Ukraine and in Ghana where they have found new purpose.
