Objects of the charity: TO ADVANCE THE CHRISTIAN FAITH AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE AND FAMILIES, IN SCHOOLS AND GROUPS, AND IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE CHURCHES IN THE AREA OF THE HEADS OF THE VALLEYS, SOUTH EAST WALES.
Structure governance, and management
The policy and operating decisions of the charity rest with the trustees who meet regularly to monitor the activities of the Trust.
The trustees are responsible for making decisions on all matters of general concern and importance regarding the charity. A new trustee can only be appointed with the unanimous decision of all the present trustees.
The trustees met regularly during the period of this report. One trustee has been appointed permanent secretary and minutes all meetings. The minutes are checked by all trustees.
Aims and purposes
The trustees of Hope for the Valleys work alongside one another an employ a children and youth officer in order to ‘advance the Christian Faith among young people and Families’. Hope for the Valleys works in schools and after school group settings ‘and in conjunction with the churches in the area of the Heads of the Valleys, South East Wales’.
Summary of the charities main activities and achievements
The trustees of Hope for the Valleys are committed to enabling as many children, young people and families as possible, regardless of social means and background to participate in the many activities undertaken by the charity.
In planning the activities, the Trustees have applied the guidance on public benefit issued by the Charity Commission. In particular we try to enable children, young people and families from all walks of life to learn about the Christian Faith through:
Worship and prayer; learning about the Gospel and developing their knowledge and trust in Jesus Christ.
Provision of Pastoral care for people living in the community.
Missionary and Outreach work for children young people and their families.

Employment of worker
In order to facilitate the above objectives Hope for the Valleys interviewed and appointed a children and youth worker. After public advertisement of the post through published Christian media, and notification passed through other Christian charities. Mr. Mick Moffet was the successful applicant to the post of Hope for the Valleys Children and youth worker. He started on March 1[st] . Safeguarding training was provided by a Safeguarding company called 31/8, and also a DBS certificate was ensured through the services of another Christian charity Scripture Union.
Response to Covid-19 Pandemic
It was a difficult time for work with children and young people to begin due to the fact that school and premises to youth clubs were shut due to the pandemic. However, valuable contacts with the local community were made in this period as Mr Moffet was able to attend many church meetings via Zoom.
It was also a valuable period in making certain that Mr Moffet understood all the Safeguarding procedures of the charity.
Mr Moffet explored various digital routes of engaging with the community, including setting up a ‘Youtube’ page during this period.
Much time was spent building relationships with local churches and other Christian charities, especially Scripture Union.
Although was a difficult time we are grateful for the way Hope for the Valleys was able to lay a strong foundation for it’s work during these months.
