Chairs Report – Nov 2023 AGM

Firstly, thanks to everyone for attending this year’s AGM, in summary it has been a very positive year for the setting as it retains its popularity with local parents and children.

This year’s AGM covers both the original charity and the new CIO charity as during the past 12 months we have been dual running the 2 entities. There will be more of an update on the CIO transfer later.

Although our accounts are not yet finalised, it looks like on the financial front we finished in a healthy position and delivered a surplus in the year with overall income being higher than expenditure by cc 7%. Child numbers continue to be very high so the outlook is that the setting will continue to be very busy. Thankfully inflationary cost pressure for food and energy is starting to slow down or reverse and we await the governments national living wage proposals for 2024 as we will continue to review the prices for our services around June time for next year. Continued thanks to Paul and Cheryl for maintaining the accounts especially as we have been dual running with 2 bank accounts, and now we should be transferring all assets from the old bank account to the new one which will make life easier going forward.

On the staffing front there have been a few changes, the main one being that Holly our deputy manager left at the end of this term, so recruitment is underway for a replacement. We also welcomed Stacey to the role of Early years practitioner. We continue to positively promote and support the staff with all their training and development needs.

Fundraising continues to be run successfully by Becky and discussed at every committee meeting, with the new outdoor wooden tepee being one of this year highlights. In addition, it is great that the setting has resumed its normal fundraising activities and the end of year outing.

Maintenance of the setting continues to be reviewed and there is a rolling programme of general refurbishment and repairs, working closely with Rosa who represents the building trust. This summer there has been a re-paint and the meeting room was transformed which was much appreciated.

Regarding the CIO transfer we are now at the final stage to vote on dissolving the old charity which essentially means all remaining assets (funds) can transfer to the new entity bank account and the chair will formally apply to the charity commission to close the old charity.

We have a small but good committee, and we continue to seek new committee members for the future. We advertised for potential new members in the recent parent’s letter again and hopefully we have some interest soon, however if that is not the case then we should identify other ways to encourage new members.
