Chairs Report – Oct 2022 AGM
-
Firstly, thanks to everyone for attending this year’s AGM, in summary it has been a very positive year for the setting and refreshing to give an update not dominated by a pandemic.
-
This year’s AGM covers both the original charity and the new CIO charity as during the past 12 months, and more in the latter months, we have been dual running the 2 entities. There will be more of an update on the CIO transfer later.
-
Although our accounts are not yet finalised, it looks like on the financial front we were break even so expenditure in line with income for the year. Child numbers continue to be very high so the outlook is that the setting will continue to be very busy. There is obviously a lot of inflationary cost pressure at present and we are impacted mainly through government minimum wage, food and energy bill increases. To address this cost increase we advised parents in June 2022 that prices for our services would be increasing across the board from 1[st] September 2022 for the first time in 2 years. Continued thanks to Paul and Cheryl for maintaining the accounts especially as we are dual running with 2 bank accounts at present, with the new bank account for the CIO now operational whilst winding down the old bank account.
-
On the staffing front there have been a few changes, the main one being that our deputy manager for the last 7 years has left for a teaching assistant job and that gave a good opportunity to promote one of the existing team to deputy manager. So well done and good luck to Holly who will be supporting Mona in the leadership team. We also gained 2 more members to the team, one of which is under the government apprenticeship scheme. We continue to positively promote and support the staff with all their training and development needs.
-
Fundraising continues to be run successfully by Becky and discussed at every committee meeting, and hopefully the setting can look forward to some of the normal fundraising activities that got cancelled during the pandemic.
-
Maintenance of the setting continues to be reviewed and there is a rolling programme of general refurbishment and repairs, working closely with Rosa who represents the building trust.
-
Back in the June 2022 we sent letters to Parents and Staff informing them about the progress on the transfer to the CIO entity. This mainly involved the parents paying into the new CIO bank account, with no changes to the dayto-day operations of the setting, and the staff moving to new CIO employment contracts, with no impact to continuous service. Both have now been completed so we can progress the final transition of any remaining assets & liabilities to the new CIO and close the old charity.
-
We have a small but good committee and we continue to seek new committee members for the future. We advertised for potential new members in the recent parent’s letter and hopefully we have some interest

soon, however if that is not the case then we should identify other ways to encourage new members.
- Finally, well done to Mona and the whole team for a very successful OFSTED inspection in July 2022, the last one being 3 years ago. The setting was awarded overall “Good” with 3 Good ratings and 1 Outstanding. This was a great achievement and something the team should be proud of.
