The trustees present their report along with the financial statements of the charity

for the year ended 17-Dec-22. The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out on page 8 and fully comply with the charity’s trust deed and applicable law. This year has been particularly busy for us as we embarked in the new construction of the new build for EMAAN RELIEF.

Constitution and objects

Emaan relief’ memorandum and articles incorporated 16 Jun 2020 as amended by Special resolution registered at companies house on 15 Feb 2021

and is a registered charity no 1193585. The objectives for the Centre are as follow:

The charity’s objects are to support such general charitable purposes according to the law of England and Wales as the trustees may in their absolute discretion determine, in particular but not exclusively to relieve financial hardship and advance education for the public benefit.

Activities during the year: Emaan Relief 2022 Projects Emaan Relief Foundation

Winter Aid – Lebanon

Given the economic crisis which the country struggled to overcome the past few years, Emaan Relief was fortunate to continue to aid Syrian and Palestinian refugees struggling in the harsh winter in Lebanon. We were able to provide provisions of food packs, heaters, heater fuel, mattresses, blankets, wellingtons, hats, gloves and scarves, as well as coats for children and adults. The total number of beneficiaries for this project was 14,694.

Rohingya

In the immediate aftermath of the fire that ravaged through the makeshift Rohingya refugee camps, Emaan Relief provide aid in the form of food packs, blankets and winter essentials. We were able to aid a total amount of 260 individuals.

Unity Appeal Winter

In collaboration with several UK registered charities, Emaan Relief participated in the Unity Appeal on Eman Channel for Syrian refugees. In addition to providing blankets, heater fuel and food packs, we were also able to provide hats, scarves, gloves, child and adult coats. We were able to reach a total amount of 3,040 beneficiaries

Ramadan

Due to the state of poverty in many countries, many families do not enjoy a nutritious iftar meal in the month of Ramadan. We provided needy families with Ramadan food packs and provided thousands of fasting Muslims nutritious iftar meals across Djibouti, Gaza, Lebanon, Somalia, Syria, Turkey and Yemen.

Zakat Cash Distribution – Lebanon & Turkey

Emaan Relief was able to distribute £100,000 in the form of cash assistance to 626 Syrian families across from the Zakat cash distribution. the border regions of Lebanon and Turkey. An average family consists of 6 members; thus we expect a total amount of 3,756 people to have directly benefited

– Floods Appeal Bangladesh

Climate change continues to cause natural disasters in the most impoverished countries. This year in Bangladesh, donations we were able to provide £9,000 in aid to those most affected heavy rains led to rivers bursting their banks causing widespread flooding across many regions. The floods affected over 7.5 million people. With your

Gaza

This year Emaan Relief continued its support for the people of Gaza and distributed food packs, hot meals and medical kits for those in need.

Floods – Pakistan

Natural disasters continued to take hold in the world, with the devastating flash floods across Pakistan. Emaan Relief was one of the first charities on the ground to start building temporary tent villages, provide food and essential items for the victims of the floods. Our aid was provided across the country starting in the north region of Swat Valley and spreading all the way south of the country to the Sindh province

Orphans & Widows – Yemen

Facing hunger, disease and endless conflict, the war has left behind millions of widows and orphans. These families have little access to food and basic necessities in order to ensure their survival. Emaan Relief provides monthly food packs to these widows and orphans.

Emaan Relief Foundation

The Emaan Relief Foundation (ERF) in Bangladesh educates 150 fulltime students of which 50 live on-site. All students are safeguarded, nurtured, and provided with all the necessary school supplies. The 50 boarding students are provided with 3 nutritious meals per day and all their daily needs, including clothes and hygiene are catered to by 8 ERF staff members.

Caravan – Lebanon

In the assistance of an elderly homeless man in Lebanon, Emaan Relief was able to fundraise in order to convert a shipping container into a private living accommodation.

Masjids

We continued our commitment of providing clean and safe places of worship in poverty-stricken communities by building 7 mosques across Uganda and Ghana. The mosques will be used to provide a place for prayer as well as Islamic classes for all members of the community including men, women and children.

Homes – Afghanistan

In June 2022, Afghanistan was hit by the deadliest earthquake since 1998. As a result, 1,163 people died and more than 6,000 were injured. Furthermore, tens of thousands were made homeless and internally displaced. In response to the catastrophe, Emaan Relief commenced the building of 40 family homes. We expect 240 people to directly benefit from the building of the homes

Homes – Syria

In response to the dire situation of those internally displaced, Emaan Relief was able to commence the building of 112 homes. Each of the homes will consist of 2 bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, courtyard, electricity and a water tank. We expect 672 people to directly benefit from the building of these homes.

Emaan Relief Foundation Expansion

Emaan Relief began the expansion of the Foundation at the start of Ramadan 2021. This expansion was completed early 2022 and is currently housing 50+ full-time boarding students. Through our expansion, more students have had the opportunity to enroll and look forward to a better future for themselves; as well as a safe place to live which they had been yearning for.

Zakatul Fitr – Syria

The obligation of Zakat al-Fitr ensures that those who are poor are provided with food in order to fully enjoy and celebrate the day of Eid with their loved ones. A total amount of 9,120 needy individuals in Syria were provided with Zakat al-Fitr.

Sadaqah Sacrifice

Throughout the year, many families around the world do not have the privilege of sharing a meat based meal with their loved ones. Emaan Relief has been providing the service of Aqeeqah sacrifices for people to celebrate the birth of a child or of those who just want to share the blessing of meat with other communities.

Qurbani Distribution

Qurbani, which is the sacrificing of a livestock animal during the celebration of Eid ul-Adha, is an important fulfillment of not just your Islamic obligation but also our duty to remember and provide for the most vulnerable at home and abroad. The sharing of meat brings that particular family and the wider community closer together. This year, we delivered meat to 14,238 beneficiaries on your behalf in Ghana, Afghanistan, India and Malawi.

Togo Wells

Droughts are expected to occur on average every 5 years in Togo, making water scarce. According to Unicef, 33% of the Togolese population don’t have access to clean water and a quarter of the population don’t have access to drinking water within 30 minutes walking distance of their homes. Given this lack of safe clean water access, we installed three wells which will benefit a community of 200 people each.

Syria Wells

As the situation in Syria has continued to deteriorate, many of the communities we support in our projects do not have access to clean water. With that in mind, Emaan Relief has started to build deep water wells in Syria witheach one being able to take care of the needs of a small village

Pakistan Handpumps, Tube and Solar Wells

Pakistan is facing a serious water crisis. The country is rapidly moving from being classified as water “stressed” to water “scarce”. In a country where 30 million people already have no access to clean water, according to an IMF report, Pakistan is likely to face acute water shortage within the next three years. We have managed to ease the burden on some of those affected by the water shortage in the Sindh Province of Pakistan. We have installed 124 water wells; 103 being handpumps, 18 tube wells and 3 solar wells. The handpumps and tube wells benefit several surrounding households along with their livestock and crops. Our solar wells help sustain many families and can be accessed by numerous villages including local farmers. Overall, the wells will help 6,990 people with their water needs

Financial review

During the year the charity received income of £684,358 (2021: £443,097).

Reserves and investment policy

There is little scope for the charity to adopt a formal investment policy due to its limited funds. Expenditure of £665,699 was incurred during the year. Overall there was a surplus of £18,659 (2021: £393,288). The funds carried forward at the end of the year was £68,468 (2021: £49,809)

£30,129 of the current year fund balance represents unrestricted fund, and £38,339 represents the restricted fund balance.

Trustees’ responsibilities in relation to financial statements

Law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the charity’s financial activities during the year and of its financial position at the end of the year. In preparing those financial statements, the trustees are required to:

Reserves policy

The Trustees recognise the need to have reserves in place to ensure the continuation of our work in the event of an unforeseen downturn. Our policy is to hold enough funds to meet six months operating costs of the excluding distribution of Zakat, and of our community activities and programs.

select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
state whether applicable accounting standards and statements of recommended practice have been
followed subject to any departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and
Prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume
that the charity will continue in business.

The trustees are responsible for keeping accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 1993. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 17-Dec-22, which are set out on pages 7-12

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2015 (the 2015 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

· examine the accounts (under section 145 of the 2015 Act);

· to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners (under section 145(5)(b) of the 2015 Act); and

to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiners report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner’s statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

(1) Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements

to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2015 Act; and

· to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2015 Act have not been met; or

(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

POST BALANCE SHEET EVENTS/Going concern

In view of the financial performance and the reserves position as at the balance sheet date, the Board of Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the Charity will have the resources to continue in operational to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. The Trustees believe there are no material uncertainties that call into doubt the ability to continue as a going concern.

The annual financial statements have therefore been prepared on the basis that the charity is a going concern.
