volunteers.|The CIO’s object is to provide a village hall for the use of the inhabitants
of the parish of Goudhurst without distinction of political, religious or other
opinions including use for meetings, lectures and classes and for other
forms of recreation and leisure time occupation with the object of
improving the conditions of life for those who live in the parish
community.| |---|---| ||Goudhurst Village Hall (GVH) Trustees aim to provide and maintain the
hall premises and to promote its use for the inhabitants of the parish of
Goudhurst as indicated above. In the absence of an endowment the
Trustees aim to ensure that the costs of providing the hall are met by
income from lettings. Balancing this aim with the need to keep prices
affordable and competitive – with regard to the Commission’s guidance
on public benefit - is a challenge and in practice trustees need to
supplement income through other general fundraising, including jumble
sales and afternoon teas, which also serve the community.
The fee structure is designed to make the hall and meeting room
available at reasonable rates for any person and discounts are available
to local residents and local organisations. Trustees may agree further
discounts for events providing a specific community benefit which would
otherwise be at risk.
Nevertheless a wide variety of activity is available including exercise
classes, U3A, tuition, lunch club and soft furnishings, all provided by third
parties who hire the hall. The Trustees also promote an art class directly.
Goudhurst Drama Society hires the hall for theatrical productions.
The Hall is also hired out for social events, parties and weddings and is
now a licensed wedding venue.| ||**and activities (Optional information)**| ||FRoTH (Friends of the Hall) is a valuable support group of volunteers
from the local community who help out at many GVH events and assist
with maintenance and general repairs and decoration. Their support is
much appreciated.| March **2012** **TAR** 3 ## Section D Achievements and performance **Summary of the main** In addition to continuing to provide and promote the hall to the local **achievements of the charity** community and beyond, the key achievement for trustees in 2024-2025 **during the year** has been in fundraising for the costs of significant building renovations identified in a surveyor’s report in 2023. A total of £78,084 was raised during the year towards these costs, from a local charitable trust and local residents. £30,343 was spent during the year on the replacement of time expired flat roofs, the first phase of ensuring that the roofs are water tight.
