The Iruslees give their time freely and receive no remuneration or other financial benefits. The trustees meet together as a body quarterly and are responsible for all de¢ision5 taken in r81ation to running Ihe Mosque and the community facilities and th8 activities provided by the charity. To assist in the smooth funning of the charity, the Iruslees have a number of different roles in the organi5alion Sel up for the finance5 and lor the day-lo-day management of the charity-
The Lambeth Islarnic Academy Executive Committee's Report Recrultment and a ointment of trustees The existing trustees are responsible for the recruitment of new Iruslees bul in 50 doing the Iruslee5 seek the views and recommendations of both elders and community leaders. The trustees believe this approach ensureslhal new trustees are respected members of the f8ilh and local communities and ensures that good relations are fostered between the Mosque and the people of the local comrnunity that we serve. In selecting new Iruslees, we seek lo identify people who regularly attend events and functions organised by the charity and are willing to volunteer to help in our broader community work. Potential Iruslees are invited to attend trustees. meetings as observers and are given more details of the charity's aims and activities and, if all agree. they are then proposed as new Irus¢ees al the subsequent trustees, meeting. This process allows due consideration of the person's eligibility, personal competence, specialist knowltsdge and skills. Induction and trainin of trustees Following appointment, new truslees are introduced lo their new role and given copies of the trust deed and a guide to the policies and procedures adoplad by our charity. A number of publications from the Charity Commission are also provided including the guidance on charities and public benefit and on the advancement of religion for the public benefit. This ensures that new Iruslees are aware of the scope of their responsibilities under the Charities Act. Initially, new trustees work with an existing trustee assisting on particular activities and projectsrun by the charity. After salisfaclory feedb8ck from exi51ing Iruslees, they are then given the task of leading a particular actiwty or project, reporting prc4ress al trustees, meetings. Risk Mana ement The trustees have assessed the risks the charity faces and have drawn up a risk matrix which idenliftes the major risks by area of activity. The Iruslees are satisfied that systems are in place, or arrangèmènts are in hand, to m8nag@ the risks that have been identified. Ob ectives and activities Our aim The objects of the charity are sel out in the charity's trust deed and are summarised as follows= The principal aims and objects of the CIO are.. to advance the Sunni Islamic Faith in Lambelh for the benefit of the public mainly but not exclusively by the public education of Sunni Islamic teachings and CLJllure through the holding of prayer meetings, lectures. public celebration of Sunni Islamic festivals and producing and dislribuling literature on Sunni Islam lo enlighten others about the Sunni1slami¢ religion. Our ob ectives Our objectives are set to reflect our faith and community aims. Each year our Iruslees review our objectives and activities lo ensu they continue to reflect our aims. In carrwng out this review the Iruslees have considered the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit and in particular Its supplernentsry public guidance onlhe advancement of religion for the public benefit. Our dual aims remain to providè a facility where Muslims can worship and to provide a community facility for all the inhabitants of the Lambelh Community. Our long-term ambition is to find a perman8nt pLqc8 lor worship. to facilitat8 the academy for peaceful community relations.
The Lambeth Islamic Academy Executive Committee's Report Strate ies We want to make our Mosque an accessible and welcoming venue where all Muslims. or those who wish to know more about our faith, can gather together to learn about their reloion and worship. We are also fortunate to have the Mosque open for the Friday prayers. We are aiming to find a permanent site. with the long term goal of opening for all the daily prayers. Use of volunteers Volunteers are an important resource in both our faith and community work. Volunteers are involved in most of our lailh and Community activities. All our trustees also give of their lime freely. We encourage all members of our Mosque to be involved in voluntary activities and lo share their skills with others. Grant4nakin olic Those attending our Mosque have given generously lo help us reach our aim of achieving a permanent site. Activities and achievements How our activtties deliver public benefit Prayers." The M05que is open for Friday prayers, with approximately 70 worshippers who regularty attend Friday prayers. In addition, we hold prayers for the Eid festival. Ramadan- The Mosque prepares food during Ramadan for those attending our Mosque who wish to break their fast together. Inter-falth dlalogue- In the future, we would Ilke to use this platform to promote inter-faith dialogue and sock?1 cohesion. Financial review Reserves Thè trLJStees have reviewed the reserves of the charity. Their poli¢y is lo hold enough funds to meet the operating costs of the Mosque. The trustees also generously contribute to this. Prinel al fundin sources The charity's main source of income is through dortionS from worshippers al Friday prayers. Furthermore, the academy holds frequent fund-raising events throughout the year. Plans for future eriod5 The community are seeking a permanent slle for the academy lo allow it to host the daily prayers as well as being hub for the local community.
