First aid happening on 27th May 2023 (Helen, Laura, Sarah, Kan Xi, Jessie) then 18th June (Diana, John). Need to work out transport help for 27th.
## **Regular Events at the Mill Road Community Centre**
Petersfield Pickles starting 8th June 2023. Within a few months we were regularly full to the point where we had to turn people away, especially after the group was apparently called the “best toddler group in Cambridge”, not only to us, but on some local social media. We have not needed to significantly publicise the group.
Coffee Mornings started 23 May 2023 and continue steadily.
In the evenings, we started a monthly program of Craft Nights, Board Games nights and Quiz Nights which have built and become more regular through the year.
For most events, we retain the principle that the payment we request is a donation. In a number of cases we waive this or don’t go to an effort to request it; as a community group working with the same people each week, we believe we have a good understanding of when this is appropriate.
A notable success has been cake donation by our volunteers and some visitors for the Coffee Morning, monthly events and Petersfield Pickles. Providing refreshments for accompanying adults at children’s events has been very appreciated (especially within the £2 entrance donation).
## **One-Off & Annual Events**
Cambridge City Council Community Grant for events, returned partly due to not using all the grant – running events at MRCC is very cheap in comparison to the Piece.
Volunteers also benefitting.
Mill Road Winter Fair- hugely successful, 2[nd] December 2023. The centre was full throughout the day, providing useful facilities – not
only the toilets, but cheap refreshments, a quiet space for children, a location for some guests demonstrating crochet and more.
Our opening Celebration took the place of the long-delayed opening event, successful largely thanks to St Matthew’s Primary School KS2 Choir who entertained us and brought many new people into the centre.
## **Communication**
We did a huge round of leafletting for the opening celebration and the programme that month.
We continue to operate www.pactCambridge.org and google email accounts.
We continue to use MailChimp for mailing and membership management.
## **Noticeboards**
Noticeboard on St Matthew’s Piece lost but a replacement is to be funded.
## **Petersfield Area Community Facilties**
Mill Road Library – the saga of the sale of this continues, despite the community bid achieving the offer price.
Devonshire Road is to be developed and we are in discussion with them about help with noticeboards.
Development of Beehive Centre was strongly locally opposed, but the proposals go on and are being revised.
St Matthew’s Piece has resisted attempts on its trees and benefits from the attention of the Friends of St Matthew’s Piece.
## **Treasurer’s Report**
Accounts for 2023-2024 are available. We have been able to run on a “donation” basis for the most part and, helped by the success of Petersfield Pickles (which at £2/family suggested is still the
cheapest toddler group we know) and Cambridge City grants, have been able to run more or less in balance for the year. We have not applied for a community grant for 2024-2025, preferring to leave this to other groups.
As the year ends, we are planning a Petersfield Pickles spin-off “messy play” session for children on Fridays, inspired entirely by volunteers who would like to run it under the umbrella of PACT.
