BEFRIENDING
Real Life Pg.7 Geoff, 80 was referred to us due to extreme loneliness. His only was his brother. who was unwell so not able to visit. Due to his moved Geoff straight onto our pastoral extra support pathway, meaning he received a visit within a week of being referred. We found a match with Paul. a male befriender on our team who has visiting Geoff ever since. or e.we uickly een Paul quickly became aware that Geoff didn't have any heating in warden controlled flat. Geoff's flat had been on the waiting list to his heating looked at since before winter. Paul quickly made cont with the warden and made them aware. as Geoff had been sleepin his day clothes all winter to keep warm in bed. with just a small f heater in his bedroom for warmth. Within a week of this phone ca heating was checked, and a fault with the system was found and fixed;) . so Geoff now has heating again. is have ct Paul has since supported Geoff in arranging a shave. shower and haircut. among other things. Paul is continuously going above and beyond to make sure Geoff knows he isn't alone.
Offer Pg.8 Befriending 1.1 Our Befriending service has continued to go from strength to strength this year. where we celebrated our milestone of reaching 100 Befriending volunteers. We continue to work closely with local GPS. NHS services, churches and other community groups who refer to us as some of the most elderly and vulnerable individuals from across the whole of Bolton. These service users are then matched with one of our volunteer befrienders who lives within their local postcode area. Our heart is to see neighbours looking after neighbours. Most often. these matches lead to real friendships. We continue to be extremely proud of the impact this service has on reducing the effects of loneliness experienced by our service users. Pastoral Support Last year, we focused heavily on our pastoral support project. This project was created to ensure that those most impacted by isolation were quickly visited. without waiting for an available befriending volunteer. Everyone referred to us who is either over 80 years or completely isolated is put onto our pastoral project and will be visited within 2-3 weeks. A member of the pastoral team will continue to visit them until they are matched with a volunteer. This project has seen much success and is a key part of our befriending project.
Reach Together Pg.9 After a successful pilot of our Reach Together social eating project for the over 65s last year. we are now continuing this permanently. The group is regularly attended by 18-20 local elderly people, who, alongside receiving a free hot meal and warm space. also enjoy various activities. These have expanded to include singing for the memory. painting with a local artist. and games. The group also enjoyed a day trip to Southport last year. We have been pleased to see real friendships and care forming through the group. Hot Meal Delivery Our most vulnerable service users are offered a weekly hot meal, delivered to their home free of charge. This offers us a chance outside planned weekly visits to perform welfare checks and ensure they are eating at least one hot meal a week. Above & Beyond We always aim to go above and beyond in the care and support we provide. being reactive to the changing needs of those we support. This year. we have provided gas and electricity payments and food vouchers through funding from the household support fund. We also ensure all our service users receive a handwritten birthday card and are sure to mark big birthdays. At Christmas, we were able to provide a hot Christmas dinner delivered to those who are housebound. a Christmas hamper to those spending the period alone. and through our successful gift appeal. provide a gift for every one of our service users. We will continue to ensure that our service users know that they are cared for and not forgotten.

Real Life Pg.12 Kathy has been feeling isolated, low in mood, and struggling w year old daughter's behaviour for a while. Her health visitor has supported where she can and signposte to localgroups where she could access further support. Kathy feel comfortable and stopped attending them. athy She was then encouraged to attend one of our Drop In sessions. after a few persuasive conversations. Kathy came along. Kathy s that although she was anxious about attending. she needn't hav worried. as she immediately felt at easeand welcomed. Through accessing the group. Kathy has been able to build positi relationships with others. which has had a positive impact on h mental wellbeing. She says shehas been able to build on these relationships outside of the group. Through peer to peer support and advice from the group facilitato Kathy is now making small but positive changes within the famil home, and she feels things are much better.
What We Pg.13 er We aim to see families thriving in all areas and achieving their potential, with improved relationships and becoming active members of their community. The work we do makes a huge difference in their lives and is seen in areas such as parenting skills. household routines. basic money management. healthy eating and lifestyles and community engagement. We do this by offering the following services: Our six-week parenting courses run throughout the communities of Bolton and are open to anyone to attend. The courses are free and help parents engage with their children and improve relationships by looking at things such as children's needs, parenting styles, boundaries, discipline and safety. The courses consistently receive excellent feedback from both parents and referrers. Many of the parents go on to build friendships outside the group and continue to provide peer support. The 'Time Out Drop In. is a peer support group started as a result of conversations with parents attending one of our parenting courses who wanted to continue meeting in a group setting. Those who are isolated and have little or no involvement in the community are particularly encouraged to attend.
Pg.14 The Drop In provides a warm space where parents are able to stay for the whole session or pop in for a brew and a chat: it is a place where they can seek advice and support on a range of topics. This can include, for example, parenting issues, routines, healthy eating. basic money skills, health and wellbeing, signposting, housing support, etc. Parents are able to make new friendships and build strong relationships with those they may otherwise not have met. During each session, activities are also available for the parents to take part in. These include things such as arts and crafts. baking. games and quizzes. local walks. etc. We provide one to one. early intervention family support for families facing various challenges. Families access support through either self-referral, attending one of our parenting courses. or referral agencies. including children's services. education and health professionals. Families are matched with trained volunteers who work with and support the family through weekly visits, working through goals set out in their action plan. These weekly visits can include, for example, introducing isolated parents to community groups, working through behaviour strategies and parenting techniques, looking at healthy eating on a budget. accessing education. etc.
Pg.15 As with the other teams of Reach Family Project, the Children and Families team continually endeavours to go above and beyond in the services and support we offer to our service users. This can be seen in a variety of ways. from cakes and celebrations for special birthdays to recognising the achievements of all family members through the use of cards and letters and by providing extra toys, games and resources to encourage positive family relationships. Through some very welcome funding from the Household Support Fund, we have been able to support many families across Bolton with food vouchers and gas and electricity payments. Over the next year, we will continue to go the extra mile with all those we support so they really know they are valued, significant and special.

Real Life Stories Pg.18 With the cost of everything going up in the shops. and bill prices increasing, the cost of living crisis is affecting many people. A single parent now struggling with the costs of living after a relationship breakdown came to us for help durin our gift appeal. They said, Thanks to the gift appeal. my children will now have gifts to open on Christmas Day. WHAT WE DO
What We Pg.19 Offer We introduced our Community Project this year to encompass all our community events and projects. This arm of Reach works with other local groups. charities and organisations to support the community through one-off events and both short and long term projects. This year. these have included: Christmas Gift Appeal Our Christmas gift appeal is now in its fourth year and each year it has continued to grow. In 2023, we were fortunate to be sponsored by local business Change Glazing and Locks. which enabled us to make the event bigger than ever! Working in partnership with both Kings Church. Bolton and Breightmet Community Group. we were able to engage businesses to act as collection points for new. unopened gifts for both children and the elderly. People from across Bolton donated gifts to us that we could then distribute through a one-off event, where families referred through local agencies were invited to choose 3 gifts per child from our donations. Those who are elderly and isolated had their gifts delivered by our Befriending volunteers. The feedback and public response from the gift appeal was incredible. and we are grateful to bring the community together to support one another in this way.
Community Dance Classes Pg.20 Partnering with local dance school Refresh Dance and Breightmet Community Group this year. we launched free community dance classes aimed at children who otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to attend a dance school. These classes have been well attended, and feedback has been positive. We hope to build on this success next year. Sew Simple Local group, Sew Simple, approached us this year about a possible partnership to offer sewing classes to all adults. We have run one group of sessions, and these were attended by a mix of people, from young mums to elderly people. The group made positive relationships. while also learning a skill which will be extremely useful during the cost of living crisis. Other Events We are pleased that our ongoing partnership with both Kings Church. Bolton and Breightmet Community Group has also led to us supporting other events this year. including a 'winter event. which provided winter essentials for children and young people, and a 'shoe event, where new and preloved school shoes were provided. We look forward to continuing these partnerships next year and hope to work with other organisations to further support our communities.

Household Support Pg.23 Funding In the Autumn of 2023 we were delighted to be notified that we had been successful in our application for the Household Support Fund. The funding was split between our Children & Families team and the Befriending team and allowed us to help lessen the burden of the cost of living increases. to not only our service users but also many others across the town. One off payments to help with gas and electricity bills were made to those in need. In addition to this payment, recipients also received a food voucher to be used at local supermarkets. The feedback we have received really puts into perspective what some people are living with day to day. "I won't feel as worried to put the heating on now. Thankyou so much" "Sometimes I have to decide whether to put the fire on or do a bit of shopping. This will help me to buy some proper food. I can't thank you enough" "You are superstars. thankyou for helping! So much appreciated!" "Instead of all my money going in the gas meter, this will allow me to use that money to buy a few bits for the kids for Christmas. Thankyou so much, the kids will be happy on Christmas morning now!"
