## Who we are
The Bridge International is a UK registered charity that relieves poverty in Africa through the provision of grants to individuals, families and organisations in Zimbabwe.

## What we Do
Through the voluntary contributions of our supporters, The Bridge International provides financial and physical support to disadvantaged people in Zimbabwe. Although our primary focus is orphans, children and widows, we also support vulnerable families, the carers of children, prisoners and those who have been left with very little or without other means of support. Provision is made through grants, the donation of items such as
food parcels, basic medical supplies, furniture, bedding, clothing, fuel, school fees or building supplies or repairs and whatever is needed for survival in times of difficulty and crisis. Provision may also include educational and life skills training to teachers, carers, community leaders for skills development or education that results in improved quality of life.

## How We Do It
The Bridge International raises funds in the UK, USA and Europe through donations, events and fundraisers and these funds are sent to the Bridge team in Zimbabwe. We
work very closely together to maximise the outcomes for our beneficiaries. The Zimbabwe team have excellent relationships with the local community and very valuable local knowledge which enables us to reach those in need in practical ways.
The Zimbabwe team identify individuals, families, groups or projects in need of support and where necessary, purchase items, distribute parcels or watch over the projects. Most of the beneficiaries are without any other means of support, and the help they receive is critical and life giving.
## We are unique because
- ✓ We are a small, committed team both in UK and Zimbabwe, dedicated to and passionate about improving the quality of life of others.
- ✓ Personal connections – we only work with people well known to us and highly value relationship.
- ✓ More than 95% of our funds goes to our beneficiaries. None of us draw salaries and we keep administrative costs to a minimum.

## Income
The largest source of income for the Trust is from individual donors who generously contribute either one off or monthly amounts. This source has been boosted by Gift Aid. A smaller amount has been generated from fundraising events. There have been no Government grants.
## Investments and Reserves
The Trustees have agreed to keep in reserve the equivalent of 2 months support for the ongoing contribution to the food distribution projects, which is at present approximately £1100 per month. The Trustees aim to increase this amount within the next year.
The Trust holds no investments.
## Grant Making Policy
The Bridge International as a grant making trust, remains satisfied partnering with The Bridge, Zimbabwe to achieve its objects. Their projects remain in line with our goal to alleviate poverty through providing facilities, services, school fees, medical equipment and other survival basics. Activities in Zimbabwe are verified with periodic reports, communications, photographic evidence and Trustee visits to inspect delivery and interview beneficiaries.

## Review of Year’s Activities
- The year has been a very successful one, despite the restrictions and hardships experienced by many as a result of the pandemic. Support for the work has been consistent and very generous. Individual donations on a monthly basis have increased and we have had two
- large donations which have provided for medical equipment at Lomagundi Clinic and the building of a new house for The Good Shepherd Centre. We have continued to provide monthly groceries for the children in the Good Shepherd Centre as well as provide for
- monthly food parcels for 37 widows. In addition, we have been able to provide for a range of small grants and donations for one-off needs and situations.

## Medical Equipment
## Versana Essential Ultra Sound Scanner
This was purchased for the Well Baby Clinic at the Lomagundi Clinic. This machine will provide ultra sound scanning for expectant mothers and the service will be offered at a very cost- efficient price. It will be installed early next year when the clinic renovations are complete. Once the scanner is operational, it will add huge value to the community as there is only one other available in the area, at the local hospital.
## Oxygen Concentrator
Another donor contributed to the purchase of a portable oxygenator for the community. During the year, individuals with respiratory problems from Covid had access to this and were able to use it in hospital and in their homes. This was made available for free, although those who used it are asked to pay for the cost of cleaning once it is returned. This is a tremendous asset for the community.
## Finger Pulse Oximeters
10 finger pulse oximeters were also donated for use in the local clinic.

## Covid Coping Kits
The Zimbabwe team put together 100 Covid Coping kits for the staff of The Good Shepherd Centre and the staff of Lomagundi Clinic. These consisted of Vitamin C, zinc lozenges, sanitiser, soap, masks and hygiene instructions.
## 2. Good Shepherd Building Project
A fantastically generous church donated a large sum to build a house for 8 children at the Good Shepherd Centre, where sleeping conditions have become overcrowded during the year when more children were sent to the centre. The desire of the Good Shepherd team is to provide holistic ‘homes’ for the children, in which they can be
cared for by surrogate parents and in a more homely atmosphere than a large dormitory. Work for the house began in the last quarter of the year and the house has nearly reached roof level. This is a tremendous achievement as there have been many delays and difficulties unique to Zimbabwe such as fluctuating prices, delays in paper work, government restrictions.

## 3. Monthly Groceries Good Shepherd
Our monthly donors have been so generous and consistent, and this has enabled us to continue to provide basic groceries every month to feed the 55 children in the home. The quality of their food has improved with the addition of some fruits, eggs, milk and meat. The testimony of Timothy, Lead Coordinator, is that there were no instances of Covid during the year and that the general health of the children has improved. And he also says ‘Thank you to The Bridge’, no more hunger!

That is 1650 meals a month. And 19800 meals a year!
## 4. Monthly Food Pack Gogos (Widows)
As with the groceries for the Good Shepherd Centre, we have been able to provide a monthly food parcel to several dear widows and widowers through the Lomagundi Clinic. Several donors signed up to ‘sponsor a gogo’ during the year and these consistent monthly gifts are very helpful for us to plana and sustain this project. At present there are 37 people receiving these packs, although many more on the waiting list.
A visit by in December to the Clinic on Distribution Day by one of the Trustees was very moving. These ladies (and a few older gents) are extremely grateful and cheerful despite the hardships of their lives. We are hoping we can increase the number of packs next year.
One pack includes basics such as maize, rice, gravy granules, tea, sugar, oil, soap, and each one costs approximately £20.
## 5. Small Grants and Donations
We have been able to respond to a number of individual needs and situations during the year including the provision of funds for school fees, car repairs, some medical fees and blankets for the children and widows.

## 3. Statement of Financial Activities
The accounts and statement of assets for the period ending 31 December 2021 are attached. The Trustees believe the charity satisfies the public benefit test. In expectation of further donations, the Trustees believe that there will be sufficient funds to meet needs as they arise.
## 4. Notes to the Accounts
1. Basis of preparation These accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis. During the year and at the Trustees’ meetings, funds are allocated to projects which we support in Zimbabwe.
2. Restricted donations
The funds held by the trustees are unrestricted. The Trustees may accept donations where the donor expresses a wish that the funds be used in a particular project and take into account such wishes when distributing funds.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31/12/2021.
**Responsibilities and** As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the **basis of report** accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination (other than that disclosed below *) which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
