## **Objectives** 

The objects of the CIO are: 

- to promote and further the craft of beekeeping within the County of Hertfordshire. 

- to advance the education of the public within the County of Hertfordshire in the importance of bees in the environment. 

## **Activities** 

Our activities in 2023, returned to our 2020 levels with many community events where the public could interact with our charity. Our training programme continued its normal in-person format with 24 new beekeepers being trained and supported during the year. In 2023 we opened our training apiary again to the Letchworth Open Gardens event which saw over 250 members of the public visit. Members of the public were able to interact with our members and learn about the craft of beekeeping. During the summer we attended the Letchworth Food and Drink Festival where various members were able to sell their honey products. We run our Bee Awareness Session which is an introduction to beekeeping, this is a lead in to our beginners beekeeping course which was once again fully booked. We continued our outreach programme of talks to various gardening and community groups, educating the public on the importance of bees and the benefits to the environment of beekeeping. In 2023, England experienced an invasion of the non-native invasive Asian Yellow Legged Hornets (AYLH). These AYLH will have a very detrimental effect on the environment, mostly felt by beekeepers and the AYLH prey on honeybee colonies. We started a program of education along with offering each member of the association a targeted hornet trap so that we can catch and monitor for AYLH in North Hertfordshire.  We took every opportunity to make the public aware of the very real danger these AYLH pose to the environment. 

## **Governance** 

The were no matters that needed any attention. The Trustees have delegated management of NHBKA to an Executive Committee which comprises most of the trustees plus function leads. We met 4 times during 2023. 

## **Grants** 

We gave a grant to Bees Abroad for £500. 

## **Annual General Meeting** 

The forth AGM of NHBKA will take place on the 25[th] March 2025 at Mrs Howard Memorial Hall, Letchworth Garden City.
