Objectives
The objects of the CIO are:
-
to promote and further the craft of beekeeping within the County of Hertfordshire.
-
to advance the education of the public within the County of Hertfordshire in the importance of bees in the environment.
Activities
Our activities in 2022, returned to pre-covid levels with our membership reaching out and partaking in many community events. Our training programme returned to its normal in-person format with over 25 new beekeepers being trained and supported during the year. In 2022 we opened our training apiary again to the Letchworth Open Gardens event which saw 150 members of the public visit. Members of the public were able to interact with our members and learn about the craft of beekeeping. During the summer we attended the Letchworth Food and Drink Festival where various members were able to sell their honey products. Our Bee Awareness Session was fully booked in 2022 which led to our 2023 training course being oversubscribed. We gave a number of talks to community groups ranging from infant schools to a senior scouts’ troop.
Governance
The were no matters that needed any attention. The Trustees have delegated management of NHBKA to an Executive Committee which comprises most of the trustees plus function leads. We met 4 times during 2022.
Grants
We gave a grant to Bees Abroad for £500.
Annual General Meeting
The third AGM of NHBKA will take place on the 26[th] March 2024 at Mrs Howard Memorial Hall, Letchworth Garden City.
