Chairman’s Report to March 2025
Our year continues as we help various organisations in our village plan and execute community events such as coffee mornings and cake sales. On a slightly larger scale we held a Family Fun Day during the summer for which we ran all sorts of children’s games, BBQs. During December we formed a team to set up the Big Switch On!, probably the main event of the year. It is fair to say that the majority of the village turns out for the which involves Father Christmas travelling around the village on his sleigh to get to his grotto, a torch lit procession departing from the church in the wake of Santa. Lights switched on by the youngest and oldest children attending the village school after which we were joined by a local brass band to sing Christmas carols around the tree. In tandem with these festivities there was a Christmas Fair held in the Village Hall with BBQ, Turkey rolls provided by a local farmer, bar and mince pies and mulled wine on the Green. A traditional Christmas celebration with money raised for village groups.
Our own fundraising goes towards our Bump, Baby and Toddler group. This is our main focus which has grown from strength to strength over the past few years. Located in the cricket pavilion next to the play ground and playing field, it offers a wide selection of fun for the children. We decided to continue not to levy a charge but simply asking for a donation. However, we do not discriminate against anyone who cannot contribute.
We were fortunate in grant aid once again which enables us not only to cover the rental of the building for our regular Monday and Thursday morning sessions but also to pay Becky our group leader a small remuneration. We are fortunate to have such a talented and committed young woman who is loved by both parents and children. We look forward to continuing through 2025.
