TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT (continued)
OBJECTIVES OF THE CHARITY
Our goal is to increase the participation of young girls playing football and non-contact boxing within Deptford and its surrounding areas improving community cohesion. Ensuring no girl will miss out.
With previous studies showing girls are at a disadvantage when it comes to boys playing football and non-contact boxing due to the lack of girl clubs, Deptford Lionesses goal is to bridge the gap and to encourage more girls to come forward and play. All our sessions are free of charge ensuring no one misses out.
We hold two weekly sessions which take place Saturday mornings in Deptford.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Deptford Lionesses (DL) has achieved a remarkable milestone of providing free sports sessions for girls since 2021. Our members have consistently demonstrated dedication and prowess in various sports competitions, securing numerous victories locally. Deptford Lionesses’ impact has been profound, promoting gender equality and empowerment. Our initiatives have led to increased female participation in sports in Deptford, fostering a culture of inclusivity and breaking down societal barriers.
Through our charity endeavors, we've raised significant funds for causes such as free football, boxing and NFL flag sessions, making a positive difference to the lives of those from the local area, many whom are from low cost families. Deptford Lionesses commitment to community engagement is evident through workshops, mentoring, and sports clinics offered to young girls, fostering leadership and teamwork skills. These achievements reflect our steadfast dedication to both athletic excellence and social betterment, solidifying our position as a force for positive change within Deptford and surrounding areas.
Our HAF camps which provide food, arts & crafts, day trips and physical education, have become a huge success, as we always receive more applications than spaces, with sites in Deptford and Catford.
We are proud to be the first girls only sports charity to offer the NFL Flag programe in Deptford and have seen a positive response from the girls in the borough to learn a new sport. We are seeing our girls only football development sessions go from strength to strength. Feedback on our quarterly questionnaires from participants show that members have made new friends, find our sessions a safe place to attend and engage in physical activities, while developing their football and NFL flag skills.
The cost of living crisis has affected many families in this borough, therefore it is important we continue to seek funding to ensure we can continue to offer our services for free.
TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT (continued)
PLANS FOR FUTURE PERIODS
Our future plans are to continue to ensure that no girl misses out and to remain at the forefront of tackling the gap between girls and boys, when it comes to sport and services being offered. We plan to work with schools, within the area to help the disadvantage gap in schools.
In the upcoming periods, Deptford Lionesses envisions expanding community outreach through more inclusive programs. We plan to establish more partnerships with local schools, enabling us to introduce underprivileged youth to our sports program and offer a healthy lifestyle by taking part in physical activities and providing advice on what meals help health. Additionally, we plan to organise fundraising events, channeling the proceeds into upgrading facilities and acquiring sports equipment for the less fortunate. To enhance accessibility, we aim to initiate virtual training sessions and workshops, for those who are unable to make our training sessions. By fostering a sense of camaraderie, health, and skill development, we aspire to make a lasting positive impact on the lives of individuals and the community as a whole.

The calculation of the required level of reserves is an integral part of the scheme’s planning, budget and forecast cycle.
It takes into account: -

planned activity level;
-
organisation’s commitments.

DEPTFORD LIONESSES (A company limited by guarantee – Company number CE024870) ANNUAL REPORT AND ACCOUNTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 22 JANUARY 2023
NOTES TO THE ACCOUNTS
1. SUMMARY OF SIGNIFICANT ACCOUNTING POLICIES
The principal accounting policies adopted, judgments and key sources of estimation uncertainty in the preparation of the financial statements are set out below. These policies have been consistently applied to all years presented unless otherwise stated.
a) General information
DEPTFORD LIONESSES is a company limited by guarantee registered in England and Wales. In the event of the charity being wound up, the liability in respect of the guarantee is limited to £1 per member of the charity. The address of the registered office is given in the charity information on page 1 of these financial statements.
b) Basis of preparation
These accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention with items recognized at cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant note(s) to these accounts.
The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) issued on 16 July 2014 (as updated through Update Bulletin 1 published on 2 February 2016), the Charities Act 2011, the Companies Act 2006.
The charity has applied Update Bulletin 1 as published on 2 February 2016 and does not include a cash flow statement on the grounds that it is applying FRS 102 Section 1A.
The charity constitutes a public benefit entity as defined by FRS 102.
The financial statements are prepared on a going concern basis under the historical cost convention and are presented in sterling which is the functional currency of the charity and rounded to the nearest £1.
c) Funds
Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity and which have not been designated for other purposes.
Restricted funds are funds which are to be used in accordance with specific restrictions imposed by donors or which have been raised by the charity for particular purposes or for specific artistic projects. The cost of raising and administering such funds are charged against the specific fund. The aim and use of each restricted fund are set out in the notes to the financial statements.
d) Income recognition
All incoming resources are included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SOFA) when the charity becomes entitled to the income, it is more likely than not that the trustees will receive the income and the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability.
Grants and donations are only included in the SOFA when the general income recognition criteria are met. For donations to be recognized, the charity will have been notified of the amounts and the settlement date in writing. If there are conditions attached to the donation and this requires a level of performance before entitlement can be obtained then income is deferred until those conditions are fully met or the fulfilment of those conditions is within the control of the charity and it is probable that they will be fulfilled.
No amount is included in the accounts for volunteer time in line with the SORP (FRS 102).

DEPTFORD LIONESSES (A company limited by guarantee – Company number CE024870) ANNUAL REPORT AND ACCOUNTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 22 JANUARY 2023
NOTES TO THE ACCOUNTS (continued)
1. SUMMARY OF SIGNIFICANT ACCOUNTING POLICIES (continued)
Legacies are included in the SOFA when receipt is probable, that is, when there has been grant of probate, the executors have established that there are sufficient assets in the estate and any conditions attached to the legacy are either within the control of the charity or have been met. Where legacies are notified to the charity but it is not possible to measure the amount expected to be distributed, the legacy is treated as a contingent asset and disclosed.
Income from government and other grants are recognized at fair value when the charity has entitlement after any performance conditions have been met, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably. If entitlement is not met, these are deferred.
Gift Aid receivable is included in income when there is a valid declaration from the donor. Any Gift Aid amount recovered on a donation is considered to be part of that gift and is treated as an addition to the same fund as the initial donation unless specified otherwise
e) Expenditure recognition
All expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all costs related to the category. Expenditure is recognized where it is more likely than not that there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to pay out resources and the amount of the obligation can be measured with reasonable certainty. Irrecoverable VAT is charged as an expense against the activity for which expenditure arose.
f) Support costs allocation
Support costs are those that assist the work of the charity but do not directly represent charitable activities and include office costs, governance costs, administrative and payroll costs. They are incurred directly in support of expenditure on the objects of the charity. Where support costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings, they have been allocated to cost of raising funds and expenditure on charitable activities on a basis consistent with use of the resources.
g) Debtors
Debtors are measured, on initial recognition, at settlement amount after any trade discounts or amount advanced by the charity. Subsequently, they are measured at the cash or other consideration expected to be received
h) Creditors
Creditors which are measured at settlement amounts less any trade discounts. A liability is measured on recognition at its historical cost and then subsequently measured at the best estimate of the amount required to settle the obligation at the reporting date
i) Tax
The charity is an exempt charity within the meaning of schedule 3 of the Charities Act 2011 and is considered to pass the tests set out in Paragraph 1 Schedule 6 Finance Act 2010 and therefore it meets the definition of a charitable company for UK corporation tax purposes.
j) Going concern
The financial statements have been prepared on a going concern basis as the trustees believe that no material uncertainties exist. The trustees have considered the level of funds held and the expected level of income and expenditure for 12 months from authorizing these financial statements. The budgeted income and expenditure is sufficient with the level of reserves for the charity to be able to continue as a going concern.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that:
-
Accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 386 of the Companies Act 2006; or
-
The accounts do not accord with such records; or
-
The accounts do not comply with relevant accounting requirements under section 396 of the Companies Act 2006 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or
-
The accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
