## **Structure, governance and management Governing Document** 

Thornton Heath Islamic Centre is constituted as a charitable trust registered with the charity Commissions in February 2021 under charity number 1193471. It is governed by a Trust Deed incorporated 9[th] February 2021. 

## **Organisational Structure** 

The charity trustees are responsible for the general control and management of the charity. The trustees give their time freely and receive no remuneration or other financial benefits. 

The trustees meet as a body and are responsible for all decisions taken in relation to running the centre and the community facilities and the activities provided by the charity. The existing trustees are responsible for the recruitment of new trustees but in doing so the trustees seek the views and recommendations of both elders and community leaders. The trustees believe this approach ensures that new trustees are respected members of the faith and local communities and ensures that good relations are fostered between the centre and the people of the local community that we serve. 

## **Objectives and Activities** 

To advance the religion of Islam by means of, but not exclusively, the provision or assistance in the provision of facilities of Islamic education and worship in accordance with the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) as interpreted by the Sunni School of Hanafi. 

Our dual aim remains to provide help to relieve the financial hardship, distress, and the suffering among the poor people in need by means of, but not exclusively, making grants or loans for providing or paying for items, equipment, services and facilities including provision of food and clean water for the benefit of the said person. The charity also aims to work to advance the education for the benefit of the public by means of, but not exclusively, the provision of educational activities and facilities such as supplementary school for public benefit. 




## **Risk Management** 

It has been the aim of the trustees to ensure that the guidance provided by the Charity Commission is taken seriously and implemented accordingly. The trustees are satisfied that systems are in place, or arrangements are in hand to manage risks that have been identified. 

## **Activities and achievements** 

Thornton Heath Islamic Centre carries out a wide range of activities in pursuit of its charitable aim. The trustees consider that these activities, outlined below, provide benefit both to those who use the centre for worship and the wider Thornton Heath community 

## **Religious activities** 

Our centre provides a place for our prayers and worship and for the activities associated with our faith. This year has been difficult with Covid. The charity has supported families affected with bereavement and provided the elderly in the community with meals and food. 

**Prayer:** The centre is open for daily prayers and Friday prayers to accommodate a wider congregation.

At this point the charity does not have to hold any reserves as it has no liabilities. 

The charity has not started fundraising due to covid. Fundraising will begin post Covid.
