The Year in Perspective
Since our launch, our charity has made steady progress and attracted new support to help us develop and grow. The year 2024-25 was a much quieter year than the previous years and we had less activity. This was not because of a lack of interest or support among the trustees and other volunteers but because of a series of issues which made it difficult for us to give as much time as we had previously.
The issues affecting the team were relating to other demands on our time which we needed to attend to, plus various health problems. The cumulative effect of these inevitably had an effect on the charity given that we are all volunteers. These issues now do appear to be behind us, and we have continued our development, and we are pleased to note that we did make a surplus although smaller than usual.
Small charities, such as ours, are more likely to be affected by these issues than some larger organisations where they may have more staff and other resources which they are able to call on.
We are not negative about this year. Our income has mainly come in from sales. In our first year of operation, we invited people to make donations to us which we could sell, and we enlisted the help of a well known auction house. This was helpful in that we were given advice on selling some things ourselves because that would make more money for our cause. We have continued to do this, including taking appropriate items to many of the sales which are organised in towns and villages across the country. The advantage of these, apart from generating income, is that it gives us an opportunity to talk to people about what we are doing and why, and this encourages some people who do not wish to buy anything to give us a donation.
As we move into the year 2025-26 we are optimistic and are developing plans for the future.
Required information
Income and spending – Total income in the financial year 2023-24 is confirmed as £524.87p, and the charity’s expenditure was £383.33p. Until now, all costs have been met by the trustees, but this year our insurance was paid from the charity’s funds. All other costs have been met by the trustees, and no trustee has sought, or intends to seek, reimbursement, either now or in the future.
Serious incidents – There were no serious incidents during this period.
Raising funds from the public – The charity did and does raise funds from the public. No professional fundraisers were used, and none are currently engaged with the charity in any way. Equally, no commercial participators were or are involved with the charity.
Grants – The charity did not make any grants, nor did it receive any grants from national or local government or any other public or private body.
Income from outside the UK – None received or expected.
Income from Government contracts – AJHMC has no contracts with central or local government
Operating area – The charity did not operate outside of England and Wales.
Trustee payments – No payments have been made to any trustee for any reason, and no trustee intends to make any claims for any payments for any activity undertaken on behalf of the charity in this period. No trustee has received or been promised any other benefit from the charity.
Employees – The charity has no employees.
Volunteers – As well as the three trustees, three other volunteers worked with the trustees to discuss and plan activities and then put them into operation.
Financial controls – The trustees have discussed financial controls and believe they are adequate for the current activities of the charity. They will be kept under review during the coming year and in future years and changes will be made when necessary.
This report and the accompanying accounts have been reviewed by the trustees and agreed.
