The MAC is not a body corpoiate. Its composition, procedures and power5 are regulated by the Constitution, which provides that before assuming office, every member must sign a declorotion Ihot he or she will be bound by the Constitution. OBJECTIVES, ACTIVITIES AND PUBLIC BENEFIT As required by the Charities Acl 2011, the MAC has given due regard lo gUdanCe published by the Charity Commission in respect of the operation of the public benefit requirement. The activities undertaken to fulfil Ihe MAC'S purposes for Ihe public benefit are described and detailed hereunder. The Church in Wale5 is a Province within the Anglican Communion and seeks to advance the Christian religion through world-wide mission. It is the responsibilily of the MAC and the Incumbent to work togelher and co-operate in oll matters of concern and importance lo the Mission Areo for the promolion of the mission of Ihe Church, pastorol, evangelistic, social and ecumenical in the Mission Area. The MAC is responsible, inter-olia, for the Mission Area budget and oll expenditure thereunder. the care and maintenance of Church fabric and of the Churchyards, ond for any oction or other matter referred lo il in accordance with Ihe Con51ilution, and is the normol channel of communication between Migsion Areo parishioners and Ihe Diocesan Bishop. The MAC provides a benefit to the public by.. The Mission Area Conference's IMACI objectives are to ensure that Church life and work wilhin the Mission Area help to fulfil that mission, both locally and more widely. The MAC is aware of the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit in 'The Advancement of Religion for the Public Benefit, and have regard to Il in their administration o* Coereinion Mission Areo. The MAC believes thot, by fulfilling its responsibility to work logether with the Mission Area Leader and co-operate in all matters of concern and important for the promotion of the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evongelislic, social and ecumenical, il provides a benefit to Ihe public by: The provision of regular public worship The provision of socred space lor personol prayer and contemplolion. Pastorol work, including visiling the sick and the bereaved. Teaching of Christianity through sermons and small groups Taking of Assemblies in locol schools Promotion of Chrislionily through stoging of events and services, and the dislribution of literature Promoling the whole mission of the Church in Wales in aiding communily cohesion through provision of activities for older people, parents and toddlers and olher Specific groups AIMS AND PURPOSES The purpose of Caereinion Mission Areo as defined in the UK Register of Chorities is.. MISSION AREA ACTIVITY Worship and dlsclpleshlp The churches in the Mission Areo h05t regulor services of Chrisfian worship. Mid-week services ore held on two Wednegdoys per month in Meifod and two in Llanfair Coereinion. A study group has begun to meet weekly in Meifod. Continuing lo provide opporlunities for the deepening of discipleship is important for the spiritual nourishment of individuals and the otlroctiveness ond health of our life as a family of God. Attendonce ot services, life even15 (funerals, wedding5 and baplismsl and a wide range of other activilies is recorded on the Church in Wale5 atlendance app. Numbers attending Chrislmas services ond events reflected an increase seen acros5 neighbouring Mission Areas. Wilh Ihe appointment of a priest in charge lo the Kerry group of churches. Ihe anticipated move of St Michael, Monafon from this Mission Area to Cedewain MA is expected to be completed in June 2025. Families. Youth and Chlldren's work Engagement with children, young people and families moslly takes place via baptisms, and building relationships with schools. However, overoll. il is currently not a strong element of our engogemenl wilh our communities and needs to become o priority once a new priesl in charge is in post and Rev'd Helen is able to focus on her Pioneer Missioner role. Shared Mlnlstry Team During 2024, Rev'd Sondro Roberts Ilnlerim MA Leaderl retired. and at Ihe end of the year Rev'd Glyn Jone5 moved from licence to Permission to Officiale. Three new clergy were licensed to the Mission Area in July.. Rev'd Jo Mackriell10.5, caring for Meifod, Pontroberl and Dolanog churches),. Rev'd Helen Dowson (Pioneer Missioner, but acting as inlerim priest in charge in respect of Llanfair Caereinion, Llanllugan. Llongyniew, Llongadfan, Llanerfyl. Manafon and Garthbeibio churches),. and Rev'd Slephen Hayes Inon-stipendiory, as Mission Area Leoderl. Rev'd Ryk Parkinson IPTOI continued to minisler regulorly in Ihe MA. We also welcomed Rev'd Mike Haslom, the diocese's Direclor of Tronsforming Ministry, who is based in Pontrobert, and our new archdeacon, the Ven Gerwyn Capon, both of whom, together with our warden5 ond Worship Page OFFICIAL
Leaders, hove played a key part in enobling worship to be mainlained on a regular basis in all the churches ol the MA. The clergy team meels regularly for prayer. support, ond planning, with the wider Shared Ministry Teom gathering approximately every two months. During Ihe year, the diocese bid successfully lo the Church in Wales Growlh Fund for resources to provide Pioneer Missioners in the three most rural MAS, including Caereinion. Thi5 will be a great b005t to our aspiration to take the good news of God's love into our communilies in practical woys which are accessible to those for whom traditional sen/ices are not familiar. More recenlly (April 20251 the diocese has advertised for a full-time priest in charge lo serve in Caereinion MA. When an appointment is made, Rev'd Helen Dawson be able to take up her role as Pioneer Missioner. Throughout the Mission Areo. churches depend upon o wide fonge of volunteers to mainloin regular worship, care for church buildings and sustain our shared life. The whole people of God seek to make our worship welcoming and proyerful. MA Trvslees Trustee meeting5 have been held by a mixture of Zoom ond meeting in person. The trustees conlinue to ensure the local churches are supported so they con carry out their mission and ministry lo the besl of their obility. Discussion took place during the year about the merits and drowbocks of seeking Charitable Incorporated Organisation status. The Trustees decided lo pursue this option. and a CIO hos duly been established Icharity number'.1212591 I, to which the business and assets of the existing charity will be Iransferred. MA Execullve In accordance with diocesan proctice, o Mission Area Executive wo5 eslablished comprising the IVIA Leoder, MA wardens and MA Treasurer, together with Rev'd Glyn Jones (to end December 20241. Rev'd Helen Dawson joined Februory 2025. The Executive meets before each Irustee meeting to set the MAC agenda, ond as necessary through the year lo consider policy and adminislralive matters and discuss the chollenges and opportvnilies faced by the chority. Safeguardlng Safeguarding is overseen ot Mission Area level, and the MA has adopted and is required to comply with Church in Wole5 safeguording policy. Clergy and licensed lay ministerg as well as MA officers and trustees, Worship Leaders, Pastoral Assi5tanls, and anyone working with children or vulnerable adults are required to hold a DBS certificate and atlend Church in Wales safeguarding training at the appropriate level. Safeguarding training is provided both online and in person by the Church in Wales, in graded modules. and needs to be renewed every three years. Sarah Evans is our safeguarding Officer. DBS ond training compliance is monitored via the 'My Church People, Church in Woles app. Buildings and Property Churches in the Mission Area are manoging ongoing maintenonce and repair projects arising out of Quinquennial Inspections. The Mission Area Leader will propose Ihat a Buildings ond Property Commitlee is initialed to assist coordination of focvlty opplicotions and ensure thal larger projects are risk-o5sessed and managed with appropriate professional oversight. Schoels The MA Trustees are involved in recommending lo the bishop Foundation Governors for our church school Iysgol Cwm Banwyl. Email voling has enabled us lo deal with applicalions expeditiously. However, it is increosingly difficult lo find potential governors who have the necessary commitment to upholding the Christian foundation and eth05 of our church schools, or have any involvement in Ihe Mission Areo. This is an issue which has been raised by the MA Leaderwith Ihe Diocesan Director of Education. Dloce5e of Sl Asaph In the course of the year, the MA received encouragement and significant practical and financiol support from the diocesan staff and Board of Finance. The MA Leader benefiled from regular meetings with other MALS in the archdeaconry and the diocese, and with the Archdeacon of Morntgomery. Sarah Evans was our nominated member of Governing Body. Concluslon Caereinion Mission Area remains fragile financially and in terms ol clergy resource but has met all its legal obligations and continues to lulfil it5 mission to promole the whose life of the church in the communities which il serves. Ministry Team. the diocesan office and a wide range of volunteers who continue to be wonderfully generous with both time ond lalenls, it has provided opportunilies for worship and Ihe sharing of the Christian gospel and mainlained a strong Christian presence throughout its area of aclivity.
