## **Trustee Annual Report Trinity Church Milnthorpe** ## Charity no. 1193424 This report relates to **financial year: 1st February 2022 to 31[st] January 2023** The **principal address** of the charity is 31 Beetham Road, MILNTHORPE, LA7 7QN The following individuals were the **charity trustees on the date the report was approved** - Peter James Bramhall Adam Mark Taylor Kevin John Gregory The following individuals served as **charity trustees during the year** : - Peter James Bramhall Andrew Colin Dugdale Adam Mark Taylor Kevin John Gregory Trinity Church Milnthorpe was entered into the **register of chariCes** on 5[th] February 2021 The Charity is governed by a ConsVtuVon as a **Charitable Incorporated OrganisaCon** . The **Charitable purposes** of Trinity Church Milnthorpe are: - the advancement of the ChrisVan faith in accordance with the Basis of Faith, primarily, but not exclusively, within Milnthorpe and the surrounding neighbourhood; and - such other charitable purposes as shall, in the opinion of the charity trustees, put into pracVce the ChrisVan faith in accordance with the Basis of Faith, including but not limited to: the prevenVon and relief of need, hardship and sickness; the advancement of educaVon; and the provision of faciliVes in the interests of social welfare for recreaVon or other leisure Vme occupaVon of individuals who have need of such faciliVes by reason of their youth, age infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances with the object of improving their condiVons of life; provided that the advancement of such purposes must be undertaken in a manner that is consistent with the Doctrinal DisVncVves and Ethical Statements as may be adopted and amended by the Church from Vme to Vme. Trinity Church has been meeVng in Milnthorpe since October 2016, but unVl February 2021 was operaVng as part of the charitable organisaVon Parr Street Evangelical Church (charity number 1141454). With registraVon of Trinity Church Milnthorpe as an independent charity on 5[th] February 2021 work commenced to open a bank account so independent operaVons could commence. Unfortunately, with COVID this proved to be a difficult task and a bank account was not fully effecVve unVl the end of January 2022. Consequently, the first few 1 months of 2022/3 financial year were a Vme of transiVon with members of the church family changing from being restricted donors to Parr Street Evangelical church to giving directly to Trinity Church Milnthorpe (hereager referred to as TCM). All the Trinity Church acVviVes (except for the pastor’s employment costs for FebruaryMarch 2022) were directly funded by TCM. To **further the Charitable Purposes for the public benefit** , TCM carried out the following in 2022/3: - Provided church services over this period to everyone who wanted to come along. This was a source of spiritual and physical support to members of the church as well as to those in the wider community seeking comfort and support in the difficult Vmes of the Covid pandemic, cost-of-living crisis, and other aspects of life. These church services were held in accordance with the relevant government guidelines, and recorded for the benefit of those who could not ajend. - ConVnued to enable members of the church volunteer to serve others in the church and community in various ways. - Encouraged church family involvement in community iniVaVves. - ConVnued to meet in smaller weekly groups for Bible study, prayer and support. These groups are open to anyone and have been one of the ways pastoral care has been provided. - ConVnued to run the Trinity Youth Group to serve secondary school aged children both in our Sunday church service and in Wednesday evening groups during term Vme. This Wednesday evening group has been a mixture of in-person meeVngs in the local Primary School, outside in a local park, and in people’s homes. - ConVnued to run Trinity Kids groups on Sunday mornings for primary and preschool age children to share the Gospel and encourage the children. - A number of other events were put on be Trinity Church for the community: - In March 2022 we organised a Ceilidh for the community. It was a way for us to highlight the celebraVon that Easter is for the church, and part way through the evening a short Gospel talk was given to share the hope and assurances we have in Christ. A diverse group of around 130 people came along on the evening. Ticket prices were made affordable to the community, and the financial shorlall was funded by a couple of direct donaVons by members of the church family. - In April 2022 we organised an Easter Trail around Milnthorpe looking at ‘Easter eggs’ provided by church family and community groups. This told the story of why Easter is a Vme of celebraVon. Over 100 people from across the local community completed the trail. - In November 2022 we organised a Christmas Pantomime performed by Saltmine Theatre Company. Ticket prices were made affordable to the community, and the shorlall was funded by Trinity Church. Close to 200 people ajended. 2 - In December 2022 an All-Age Sunday morning service was held to share the wonderful news of that first Christmas and what it means for us today. - In December 2022 an evening Carol Service was held to provide an opportunity for the community to focus on the amazing incarnaVon story and its impact in our lives. - In January 2023 we commenced an evening series enVtled ‘Living the ChrisVan life’ to provide a biblical perspecVve on issues that face people in general and ChrisVans in parVcular. The **main achievements** of Trinity Church in the year were: - New people ajending the Sunday morning meeVngs and geong involved in mid-week events. This covered all age groups, different backgrounds and varying needs. This was accompanied by a willingness to serve within the church and community - Ajendance at the youth meeVngs conVnued to be higher than the number of teenagers in our church family. This reflects a need being met in the community, and an opportunity to share about the ChrisVan faith. - A significant number of people outside TCM came along to the Easter Ceilidh and completed the Easter Trail. - A significant number of people outside TCM came along to the Saltmine Christmas Pantomime and had fun, as well as hearing a short Gospel message and being invited to other Christmas events. - A number of the community outside of TCM came along to the Carol Service, singing songs about Christ’s incarnaVon and hearing a clear Gospel message. The trustees have read the Commission’s Public Benefit requirement statutory guidance and have had regard to this when running the charity. ## A **review of the charity’s financial posiCon** at the end of the year: - At the end of the financial year TCM held £17,998 in the charity’s Bank Account and pejy cash. This represents just over 4 months of average operaVng costs and is in line with the trustees’ iniVal target of 4 months. The trustees will take any necessary steps during future periods to maintain reserves at or above the target. - The general principle of investment for Trinity Church Milnthorpe is one of financial conservaVsm to avoid capital risk. This approach recognises that financial returns on capital will be low but balanced by certainty. - As has already been menVoned the early part of 2022/3 was a transiVonal Vme with the ability to operate as an independent financial enVty. Since the beginning of February 2022 all expenses were handled by TCM except for the pastor’s employment costs. - His employment costs remained in the Parr Street payroll unVl 1[st] April 2022 although the salary and on-costs were charged against the restricted funds held by the Parr Street Evangelical church charity. - 3 - The transiVon for donors switching from Parr Street Evangelical church to TCM lasted unVl the end of November 2022 when the final person switched across. UnVl that Vme any donaVons intended for TCM were transferred regularly from Parr Street Evangelical church. - - All monies received from Parr Street have been treated as donaVons. - In the financial year 1[st] February 2022 to 31[st] January 2023 the Charity had an unrestricted income of £68,676 and £1,066 of restricted income. The restricted income was given by members of the church family and others to support the mission trip of one of our young people to South Africa. This restricted income (and an addiVonal £250 of funding from TCM) was transferred to Crosslinks in November 2022 and January 2023 to help fund the Crosslinks mission. - OperaVng costs on unrestricted acVviVes were £51,478 of which £4,699 were donaVons to other ChrisVan organisaVons in support of their work. AddiVonally, there were operaVng costs of £1,066 on restricted acVviVes in the year - this being the transfer of directed donaVons received for the already menVoned Crosslinks mission trip. - The growth in unrestricted funds is not expected to be as significant in future years. 2022/3 benefited from receiving Gig Aid for 2021/2 year (£5,038 passed onto TCM by Parr Street in May 2022) as well as progressive Gig Aid claims during 2022/3 financial year. It is more likely that unrestricted funds will remain at similar levels. - There were a small number of short-term liabiliVes totalling £1,245 at the end of January 2023, and these were all paid in February 2023. - No trustee received payment or benefits from the charity for being a trustee. Peter Bramhall (TCM’s pastor) is the sole employee of the CIO. His remuneraVons are purely for his pastoral role and not in any way related to being a trustee. In employment majers Peter is recused to avoid any conflict of interest (in accordance with the charity’s Conflict of Interest policy). - The charity does not raise funds from the public. - This charity does not have any trading subsidiaries. - The principal risk and uncertainty which the charity faces are that it relies heavily on donaVons to conVnue its operaVons. The current levels and rising cost of living in the UK is expected to reduce disposable income of the church family and others, while costs conVnue to rise. Adequate reserves at the end of January 2023 (4 months expenditure) should provide a buffer to any short-term issues.
