Two main projects were undertaken during the period 2021-22, namely:
- The production of The Magpie Robin’s Songbook - an album of songs in Bengal from the Bangladeshi Independence movement in 1971 - working with British Asians, Indians and Bangladeshis as well as schools and audiences in London https://globalmusic.academy/magpie-robins-songbook/
This involved two concerts at SOAS University of London and a project with children from Manorfield Primary School in Tower Hamlets:

The aim of this project is to raise awareness about Bangladeshi music in order to promote diversity and social cohesion. Pupils of Manorfield Primary School learned a song in Bengali, taught by renowned British Bangladeshi singer Sohini Alam. They then visited SOAS University of London and recorded in professional recording studios.
- The charity produced Professor Rachel Harris’ inaugural lecture, which included a live performance of Uyghur music and the commissioning and premier of this Uyghur performance art ‘A Poem About Exile’

The Global Music Academy supported this event because Rachel Harris’s research, and the work that was commissioned on the occasion of her Inaugural Lecture, raise awareness about the plight of Uyghur peoples through music and dance. This event brought together scholars, members of the public and Uyghur community members in an event, and at the premier of a film which raise awareness about Uyghur music and dance in our ongoing efforts to promote diversity and social cohesion. The film has been viewed 900 times on YouTube.
We hereby confirm that the trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.
At the end of the period, we had £2,408.86 in the account.
